Marquez Callaway (1 Viewer)

TQS will have more than 8 tds next year

Peeps make fun of TQS but he has and always will have good repoire with Winston. Winston throws/practices with TQS most of any reciever we have

TQS has a tall lanky build with speed that is tough to defend in certain routes.

MARK IT DOWN

Carmichael will be using MT and Olave as decoys to get TQS and Calloway open for explosive plays every game vs opponents 3rd and 4th best cornerbacks

Sorta. The biggest problem Calloway had last season was that he was matched up against a #1 corner, something Lance never saw. In the slot against a nickel, I think Marquez will feast.

Yep. Calloway had issues beating tight man coverage and getting off the line. Putting him in the slot set back off the LOS will give him more space to work with to get separation from the CB. He wouldn't have to try to beat press or tight man coverage in the slot. And he won't have to worry about getting forced out on the sideline.

He seems to fit well in the big slot role that Sean Payton basically brought to the NFL.

That said, I think Callaway can be better than just a slot guy. He reminds me a bit of Hopkins from the speed side of things. If he can just figure out how to play a bit stronger (for lack of better word) both in frame and in hands, then I think it'll start to show. As it stands now, he looked pretty good against #1 CBs, but he obviously wasn't ready for that role last season. He shouldn't be blamed for his lack of production, nor was it fair to put him in that position - not even mentioning the QB carousel we had last season.
No idea the obsession with Calloway. The comparisons to Hopkins need to stop.

He looked terrible last year, ranking in the bottom of the league in separation per route!!

You don't get over 700 yards receiving in an NFL season playing with 4 different QBs and facing team's #1 and #2 WRs if you are "terrible." He's not great and he's not close to Hopkins, but he's a solid WR especially if you have him playing the #3 role or in the slot facing the other team's #3 CB or LBs and Safeties in zone coverage. He's a solid #3/#4 WR with upside to continue to develop and become a good #3 WR.

Well said, I can agree with that.

we desperately needed a guy who can dependably stretch the field and get open. That will free up the offense to do way more. Olave will put less pressure on Thomas, free up the TEs, and spell Kamara to do what he wants in space. As long as Olave is healthy this offense will hum.

agreed the offense will be more open and stretched with Olave. Hopefully Carmichael will take advantage of the open space and mismatches to be exploited

*With the instant addition of Olave outside taking 2 defenders with him will help our RUNNING GAME

Much much less stacked boxes and 8 man fronts. Payton was great designing short pass routes but sometimes got too cute. Defenses played against the run and short passing routes. Carmicheal can now stretch the field by taking more shots deep with Olave and Harty (even TSQ)

our running game/ Oline blocking should be much better without the safety on the LOS

Ok Mr. Analytics…didn’t you know that CGM is always among the worst WRs at separation per route? If you can’t separate, you have to win contested passes…which is what both CGM and Callaway do very well.

Callaway was among the weaker #1 WRs last year. When you’re facing number one CBs, you’ll have poor separation, especially when that’s not Callaways game to begin with. Now, he’ll be facing #2 and #3 CBs, big difference. Not to mention that he’s still improving. He’s only entering his third season.

Saying that he looked terrible last year is ignorant. Makes me wonder how much Saints football you watch. He was easily our best and most consistent receiver in this trash offense last year.

Hopkin runs a 4.41 (really fast) compared to Calloway who runs a 4.57 for comparison that is slower Treylon Burks and Michael Thomas. So last year when he couldn't separate, now you know why.
Seeing these numbers makes me like Alontae Taylor more..seeing that he is faster than Hopkins. 4.36 Taylor ran.

Louie doesn’t actually think that right?!?! What does the actual Louie think about TQS??? Realistically???

What will help Callaway the most is improving his route running technique, because he he can't get seperation through speed.

Right now. Harris is probably your real #3.

Michael Thomas returning will have a profound impact on the offense and passing game.
…adding Olave should provide an immediate improvement to the WR corps as well, and I view him as a younger version of Emmanuel Sanders.

I like Callaway as well, and I believe he will have the opportunity to work both in the slot and on the outside, depending on the package.
Deonte will get work as well… and his role should continue to expand.

I’m interested/excited to see how Taysom Hill is used within the offense in the H-back/TE role. The Saints did not add a FB this offseason, and I don’t believe Prentice is very good… I think Hill could be used as the FB quite often.
I think we all are suffering from the off-season of "things will be different" we know and have seen how players perform but think because it's a new year that THIS will be the year when they "breakout" but just like TQS we have to realize the limits of some players that includes Calloway. Thomas coming back brings back the passing attack and Olave hopefully will inject more punch into the offense like alot of these current young reciever have for their respective team, but guys like Calloway, Harty, TQS we know what we have in them and they are role players who can make plays when the defense is not focused on them and Thomas and Olave will open things up for them.

I’m not arguing about DHop or Calloway….what I’m saying is you have no idea how to analyze measureables….it’s the very old tired trope (mostly by the “experts” in the media) that put a premium on the 40 yard dash….when cone, shuttle and upper body strength are more important….yes you are ignorant in that regard…..no joke….
You know I was going to have this long rebuttal but I'm not. Fact is I'm not responding to you or anyone that resorts to name calling, after today I'm not doing it either. If I get caught doing it I want to get called out on it. Second time today the devil(not you) tried to come at me, but he going to hold this L today and everyday after. We all on the same side at the end of the day.

This is all I been trying to say. Its not Madden, you can't make the player better. BTW you go look at majority of his passes he caught he was wide open, he didn't beat his man one on one.

I'm not comparing him to anyone, but how terrible was an undrafted, 2nd yr player getting 700yds and 6 TDs, and lead all Saints WRs in 2021. What did you really expect from a #3 WR, playing the #1 spot? Context man, context.
