[Merged] N/S- Henry Ruggs car accident in Vegas (update from old thread) (2 Viewers)

While i understand your sentiment, its just not that simple to make comparisons like this.

First off, Ruggs is fully capable of affording a host of services to transport him in any situation. Second, his "career" comes with certain responsibilities. Now, an argument could be made regarding a 23 yr old shouldering those responsibilities, but thats a different argument for a different day.

So yeah its a mistake. A huge mistake that, as you said, will affect him til he dies. The point most are making here is that he had a choice. He made it and now suffers the consequences not only financially and personally, but socially as well. There are PLENTY of folks here and elsewhere that have NEVER driven drunk.

At this point, if im one of 32 NFL teams, I give every player, from rookie to 15 year vet a card. A card that has a preferred method of conveyance ( lyft/uber etc ) and install on phone and USE IT. Shoot, we will foot the bill and you pay us back.
i agree 100%, you make millions of dollars, pay somebody 100k a year to be your personal driver. it's that simple.

Alcohol doesn't care about any of that though. It is a curse that hinders you from making sound decisions. It obviously is going to cost this young man his career and a good portion of his life.

but your equating his choices to ours when the "situations" are not remotely the same.

Therefore, it appears you are "defending" him.
I'm just saying there are a lot of stones being thrown here by a lot of people that have also decided to drink and drive. I'm guilty as well. It wasn't smart, but it did happen. he will have to pay for his decisions. I'm not trying to defend him at all.

Ruggs should never be let play again. Gruden will never coach in league again and Ruggs who killed someone while off his head could hypothetically be suspended for a year. That ain't right.

Agreed completely. By the sounds of it he rear ended the person at high speed. Prayers for the family of the deceased. Not for Ruggs
Prayers for all, even Ruggs. Hope he learns, gets help, and uses this as a platform against drunk driving. God left him here for a reason.

and THAT is how your first post should have read.

We all have transgressions- but that doesnt exclude us from lamenting a dumb decision and offering our opinion on the matter.

Gruden may or may not coach again. He resigned and wasn't suspended by the league. I suspect he and the league mutually agreed to part ways for a bit, but officially, he could come back if he wanted to. He might end up being blacklisted from coaching again in the NFL though.

As for Ruggs, considering precedent, he'll probably be allowed to come back after a lengthy suspension. We'll see.

Speculation. Don’t know if he will get off or go to jail for years. If it’s the latter, his career is over anyway by the time he gets out of jail.

Las Vegas is one of the easiest cities in the entire world to hire a ride 24/7. This is just so stupid and sad. I hope others learn from this situation and make better choices than Ruggs did.

This is the thing that pisses me off the most about NFL players specifically when it comes to driving around drunk. The mother forking league provides 24 hour a day/7 day a week rides to any player in the league who's drunk and is considering getting behind the wheel.

So, on top of having the financial resources to afford any possible type of alternative transportation in lieu of driving drunk, the league provides them with free league sponsored rides wherever they are. All they have to do is call the number on the card given to each rookie entering the league at the rookie symposium. All this and you are STILL stupid and selfish enough to drive your 500 HP murder machine while sheetfaced in Vegas gambling away your newfound millions. Stupid and selfish enough to manage to actually kill someone, screw uber, cabs, limos, airplanes, the NFL designated driver program and everyone not named Mr. Henry Ruggs III, cuz he wants to do whatever he wants to do whenever he wants to do it and it just so happened to be to drive his pimped out new Corvette after spending a day drinking in Vegas.

Hope he has to serve the maximum sentence possible of 20 years.

Have a friend who right out of college killed two people driving drunk in a head on collision.

He served 15 of his 18 year sentence. The only thing that prevented the maximum sentence was the other driver was drunk as well.

The whole experience changed him and something he lives with daily. The best thing to come out of it is he has never touched alcohol again.

What a moronic thing to do. These players have no reason to drive drunk especially with all the resources they have. RIP to the victims and their families.

I agree, but I've seen drunk drivers not get jail time for stuff like this all too often. We'll see. I think he should get some jail time, like a year at least.
In Nevada, if he’s convicted he’ll have to do 2 years minimum.

Yeah, if it's 2 years jail, plus 1 year suspension from the league, it will be very tough for him to come back after 3 years out of the league.
