Mike Garafolo: Saints are set to make a decision on Derek Carr within the next few weeks; likely to have multiple suitors if released (27 Viewers)

This is my fear, and by the way he talks, he thinks this way. However I really hope Kellen is like let’s get the cap in order so starting on 2026 he can behind to build the roster he needs to be successful. We have to get younger/faster on defense, we have a hole on the o-line, we have to get WRs who can play 15-17 games a season.
So what is it that tells you that a WR out of college will for sure play 15-17 games a season? Asking for a friend

And you STILL can't give Derek Carr criticism LOL. SMH.

I think we all give him criticism…some of just understand that this is a part of having a QB of this level, a non-elite type.

They make all the throws, are efficient, but will make head scratching errors every now and then and likely won’t elevate you with some big time clutch performance.

Fans of the Bucs, Packers, Steelers, Seahawks, Broncos, Vikings, etc. have the same experiences with their quarterbacks…those teams for the most part have better coaches and a better, healthier supporting cast roster-wise to help make up for their middle tier QB’s shortcomings though.

Ours had Dennis Allen, Pete Carmichael, and a historically injury-ravaged roster to overcome. Same guy, efficient with the football, doesn’t turn the ball over, but just didn’t have what it takes to get a poorly constructed football team to the next level.

Even for as great as Drew Brees was, even he was not someone that could get a poorly constructed football team to the next level. He may win you an extra game or two than they should and have the games look more fun while doing it, but there’s very little any QB can do as far as getting to the next level when their TEAM is bad.

I think Carr is a solid but unremarkable QB. He is also leaps and bounds above the two other QBs on the roster.

I think wether the Saints bite the bullet with him and release him or trade him will depend on what Moore thinks of his ability as a stop-gap or if he wants to move forward with a totally different QB.

I don’t have any issues with Carr staying on until 2026. But I’d also be ok with them letting him go and giving the whole offense a full makeover.

Tell your friend just trying to predict starting caliber players the draft is a crap shoot so there’s no way to tell. However if your friend paid attention the last couple of years he’d know we have no WR on the roster currently who’s able to stay healthy so that should tell them it’s a position we absolutely need to get deeper at.

I think the way Derek's brother responded to Rapport means Carr is officially done with the Saints. Super exciting times ahead!
You never really know, what's best for the team could go either way and a tweet from a players brother is not going to be the deciding factor.

This should make for an exciting offseason while we watch and speculate on how this team can or will be reshaped or even if we have the wiggle room to drastically reshape things.

Agreed…if anything, the fact that he’s still entertaining Saints news/info, and in the eyes of some of the sleuths here was still hanging around the Saints forum, may tell us something. Either that he’s staying or, the most likely scenario, that he has no idea what’s coming and is waiting on a decision from coaching/management.

Cool story. Way to make a multi paragraph excuse salad for Carr. Brees at least put up historical numbers while being on poorly constructed teams and was exciting to watch. He's also a hall of famer and makes his teammates better. Carr doesn't. All the teams you mentioned have a better QB situation than the Saints btw. Especially the Packers they went from Farve to Rodgers to Love. All superior to Carr. It is a team game, however Carr is on the team, and deserves to be held responsible for his play, and not be saddled with excuses every year when he fails.

I'm about to start making a rule for myself not to respond to people that make comments like this. In fact, I stopped reading right there.

It's usually a sign of immaturity and also a sign that I am speaking to someone dug in their heels and won't budge despite whatever logical argument gets made, and they will just become more and more agitated and disrespectful as the conversation goes on.

Good day sir.

The fact we’re yet to see any sign of Derek Carr with our new offensive head coach tells you all you need to know.

Have we seen our new offensive HC with anyone though? He came in to sign a contract, get a tour, maybe have a meal, do some neighborhood shopping, etc., then head back to Philly to finish up his celebration stuff.

Heck, if I’m not mistaken, he technically isn’t even really allowed to be doing much with Carr right now. It’s probably why you don’t see any of the new coaches with their new players currently. The rules are strict about when they can be coached.
