Mike Garafolo: Saints are set to make a decision on Derek Carr within the next few weeks; likely to have multiple suitors if released (10 Viewers)

Have we seen our new offensive HC with anyone though? He came in to sign a contract, get a tour, maybe have a meal, do some neighborhood shopping, etc., then head back to Philly to finish up his celebration stuff.

Heck, if I’m not mistaken, he technically isn’t even really allowed to be doing much with Carr right now. It’s probably why you don’t see any of the new coaches with their new players currently. The rules are strict about when they can be coached.

Well, we do know that McCoy, a team leader, was there at the Saints facility to greet him when he walked in for the first time. And that's just who was captured on camera, there may be other players who are around and have welcomed him.

Now, Erik and others may just so happen to be here while Derek is on the west coast, but that's just to say that there was nothing to stop Derek from being present when his new head coach was introduced.

He’s in the building now and has been over the last couple of days and the first player that we’re shown to greet him is Erik McCoy. It would be very easy to end the speculation that Moore doesn’t want Carr if it wasn’t true.

Instead we’ve got Darren Carr behaving like a child on twitter as usual (he’s also somebody who’d know). The fact Carr wasn’t here at all during Super Bowl week either tells me they’re working out a way to move on.

McCoy is likely just there with the trainers and docs getting treatment; which I believe is the only way players are currently allowed in, aside from contract stuff. Doubt he was there as part of some sort of welcoming committee gesture.

More Carr excuse salad™. Besides, doesn't Carr have an injury that kept him out of the last bunch of games? If he wanted to be there to greet the coach, he could have been.

That isn't accurate. You're likely a little confused about this rule:

Workouts cannot begin prior to the first Monday in April for clubs with a new head coach or the third Monday in April for all other clubs

Players are allowed to be here and shake hands with their new head coach if they so choose. Maxx Crosby was at the Raiders facility for their welcoming press conference for Pete Carroll. There's no rule against this.

Why do people act like players, fresh at the start of their off-season mind you, are thinking about this stuff 24/7 or accessible to do these sorts of things at all times?

Carr could very well be on a family vacation in Italy that was planned for two years right now for all we know.

This is just another thing added to the “Unwarranted hate”/“Hypothetical thing created out of thin air to complain about” list.

Was he there for the press conference, or was he there the day the press conference was to occur…there is a difference. Lol

Whatever…not going to go too deep on this discussion. This seems petty to me.

Was the Raiders QB there? Was Caleb there to greet Johnson? Was Trevor there to greet Liam Coen? Etc.

Listen to yourselves. You’re complaining that a person that resides in California wasn’t available for a handshake and photo op when he could just as easily be having phone calls and FaceTime conversations with the guy for all we know. It’s 2025.

We shouldn't be surprised at Carr's lack of leadership. Football is a modern day gladiator sport so we're talking about the fastest, strongest, violent of men that the law allows (outside of mma/boxing). Kinda hard to peg a mascara wearing QB the optimal leader of such men.

that was sarcasm. Kinda. not really, but kinda.

I'm not complaining. You said there were rules against him being here, and I just wanted to make it clear that there are no rules that prevent a player from being here. If he wanted to be here in person to welcome his new coach, he could have.

This whole "listen to yourselves" thing from you is kind of irritating. Read my posts and tell me if there was any sort of complaining.

I wasn’t responding specifically to your post, just in general about the rabbit hole we are going down here.

Agreed, he could have been there if he wanted to be AND if he was available to be.

I just don’t think it’s a knock or sign of anything that he wasn’t, just like most of the rest of our team leadership wasn’t and just like most other teams with new coaches’ leaders weren’t.

No need to continue to bicker about this. It’s silly.

Too many don't see players as actual human beings.

Like made up Italian vacations?

For a guy that supposedly holier than thou and has me on his ignore list and takes every opportunity to tell people, you sure seem to be clowning my posts a lot today.

Can’t let a good “Gang up and triangulate” opportunity pass you by I guess.

You really should start charging me rent.

The only person bickering here is you. People are making an observation that the QB hasn’t been seen with the new head coach and what, amongst other things, that might mean.

No one’s complaining or criticising Carr here, they’re just speculating which is kind of the point of a forum.

QB is one of, if not the most complicated position in any sport. You not only have to throw a pig skin 30+ yards with a fast release, speed on the ball, and be able to hit a dime, but you also have to anticipate 21 other peoples movement and thought processes to be high successful and one of the greats (this is exactly what made Brees, Brady and Manning so incredible).

if your not living, breathing and sleeping football, you ain't it. And if you ain't here to meet your new head coach, you're ain't it.

The dude is rich. Not well off, filthy freakin rich compared to 99.9% of humanity. He can reschedule that vacation.

One thing I've learned over the last few years, and Derek Carr does not live, eat, sleep and breath football to be great. He does just enough to keep in the spot light, tries hard on the field and goes about his life the moment he leaves that stadium/practice. He isn't great and this is just one reason why he never will be.
