Movies everyone else seems to love that you’re just ‘meh’ about (1 Viewer)

I made it about an hour into Everything Everywhere All at Once. I don’t understand the hype and critical acclaim for that one. I’ve read there’s a deeper meaning to the storytelling but I couldn’t stay interested in it long enough to find out.
This is a great example ... now that I kind of understand the assignment. I watched it a couple times and now I can't even remember what happened .... because clearly EVERYTHING happened.

Mad Max: Fury Road. I give it a 0 out of 10.
I was unimpressed when I left the theater. It has grown on me since. The main problem is that it really wasn’t a Mad Max movie. You could have called the Max character “Chuck” and it would not have changed the movie at all.

Once I just accepted this as a Furiosa movie (not Mad Max), I liked it better.

Technically it’s a mine, usually laid under a defensive wall in a tunnel called a “sap”. “Hoist by his own petard” was when a sapper lit the fuse to a petard then ran down the tunnel, but the fuse was too short and the resultant explosion would blow the sapper out of the tunnel.

Now it’s used for making a rule and running afoul of its consequences

Right then, off with you.

are there any mines that aren't bombs?

Vertigo

The Dark Knight

Both for the same reason: the ending of each ruins what was otherwise an excellent film up to that point. Both endings are stupid, anticlimactic, and a better written ending is painfully obvious for both.

Ditto on Forrest Gump. It has its good moments, but some of the anachronisms grate on me, some of it just silly (the running cross country non-stop bit is excruciating) and the very end is preachy in a cringy way.
