Yeah, the combination of Perkins and the 2 guys who are the last people on Earth I wanted to get the job push this over the top for me. Stan is looking pretty good at this point, haha.I feel better about the hire after hearing Kendrick Perkins say that Marc Jackson or Jason Kidd should have been the hire.
I lived through the Jeff VG days as a Knicks fanI fancy myself as knowledgeable about NBA matters but I know very little about SVG, reading the above posts eases my mind.
I do recall him getting a bad hand dealt to him to finish out his time in both Miami and Orlando, but I wasn’t aware of his coaching ability.
Any coach that brings discipline to the team is all right with me. Team was wayyy too undisciplined on both sides of the ball with Gentry.
Listen to JJ Redick’s take on SVG is enough of an endorsement for me.But listening to past players talk about SVG, he might be too far in that other direction. A real grinder of a coach. Thats why Perk thought Kidd or Jackson might be better because he doesn't think players today can handle coaches like SVG.
Hopefully the time off taught him to be more flexible. I know Sean Payton went through that "grinder coach" phase and eventually changed.
