Nick Underhill: Players organizing a Players-Only Meeting (1 Viewer)

I get protections. But I think it's one of those things that's made too difficult at times. Too rigid. If the call is for a guard to double the nose, and you allow a linebacker to hit the gap wide open, you failed. Head up. Eyes up. Have the ability to adjust on the fly. Put your body in front of the free rusher.

So you think Griff fired the Pelicans coach after 1 year without getting Gayle's approval first? It cost her $20 million dollars. I know she's hands-off but she's not THAT hands-off.

I never suggested Gayle would fire Loomis or Lauscha - but she will fire a head coach, and has (or, to avoid any further confusion, she has authorized someone in the front office to do so lol) in the not too distant past.
Yeah, anyone suggesting Gayle isn't in the loop regarding key personnel decisions doesn't have a clue what they're talking about.

While she does get some credit it's not like she started wacking the guy with her purse, she screamed and told him to get out of her car. and the guy panicked and ran. Not much different than most women from Algiers would do

That was mostly a joke and certainly not intended to be serious.

But as you say, not much different from what the average person would do. Which was kind of the point. She's not as divorced from the world we live in as some think. She's still subject to the same bad streets, non-functional pumping stations, and lack of infrastructure that we are. And I'm sure she wants to see the Saints win if for no other reason it's fun for her at the games and at the parties she goes to.

But there is this clear misogynist undertone to all the criticism about Gayle Benson that boils down to "she's a woman, she can't possibly know about or care about football" and she just got the money because she found a sugar daddy when he was old. But it's guised as "she's an interior decorator".

And the idea that a woman can't possibly know about or care about football is demonstrably not true about many women, especially southern women.

Three days of the same old comments I could read on any other SR thread. What about the player meeting?

What about it? It was a closed door players only meeting for a reason. What would be the point of a closed door player only meeting if they came out and said what was discussed?

I know people wanted this to be the team plotting mutiny against DA and Loomis, but that is clearly not what this was and AK told us what it was.

So somebody leaked that there might be a meeting but nobody leaked that they actually had a meeting. And the thread goes on.

Shiela Ford Hamp's team is kicking butt so a woman can definitely run a football team. Gender makes no difference. The difference is that she has a presence and is actively involved in the team processes. The GM is not a pseudo-owner telling fans to look past results, Holmes actually has to do a good job or I imagine she will replace him.

The big contracts to unproductive players draggint the team down, the abuse of the cap, lack of depth, missed draft picks, hiring DA, signing Carr, even the injuries to some extent: these all fall on one person, Loomis and yet he doesn't accept his mistakes.

Are you saying Loomis is a pseudo-owner?

I'll bet big $$$ it was not GB's idea to fire SVG I'm guessing the conversation went like this
Griff, Mrs. B, I don't think SVG is gonna work out.
Mrs. B, Ok let me know when you are sure.
Later on
Griff, Mrs B , it's time to let SVG go
Mrs B, OK

Good stuff.

For what its worth, Gayle fired Stan Van Gundy after 1 season because Griff told her it was the right/necessary thing to do. So we know she's not completely allergic to canning someone quickly if its not working. But obviously nobody on the football side is telling her to fire DA just yet. She may get there on her own soon enough.
I know this is somewhat unrelated but I hope griff/Willie are on short leashes themselves.

That team isn’t good.

GB being a woman has nothing to do with it. She is an amazingly generous compassionate lady. But she is not a alpha. All her businesses failed , and she was heavy into debt when she married TB. And if you think she does not care about the Saints or the Pels then you're delusional
That said she is not one that will initiate the firing of any HC of the Saints or the Pels. It will always be up to ML or Griff with DL's blessing . She is a hands off owner when it comes to personnel

Yep. He was in Benson's Will to run the team for Gayle. He is an owner in all but name.
Uh, no, that's not accurate at all. He's named in the succession plan, but he has zero ownership interest and cannot buy or sell the team. Dennis Lauscha is the designated executor of the estate upon Gayle's passing and the language in the plan mandates that Lauscha sells the team to a party who agrees to keep the team in New Orleans. There's some debate as to whether that's enforceable, but that's a different discussion.

In the unlikely event that Lauscha passes before Gayle, then I believe it's Bensel, then Loomis.

There's nothing in the language that prevents Gayle from firing any of them if she wants to. She retains full ownership of the team and can override any of them.

That said, they're are all practically a family and unless Loomis does something stupid, he's not likely going anywhere.

Ideally, he'd work with Gayle and Lauscha to step away from the GM position and hire a football guy to run the team.
