Ok I’ll probably get trashed for this but…. (5 Viewers)

The only way you’re signing any of our FA’s besides Chase Young is to restructure all those guys AND Carr, which is why I say Chase is the only guy we should resign to lower his cap hit.

Let Adebo and whoever else is over a minimum salary walk to get the comp pick(s). Sign whatever minimums you need to fill the roster, we shouldn’t be signing anybody to more than that.
Trey Hendrickson has absolutely dominated for the Bengals for the last 3-4 years, but their defenses overall have been terrible. I think the NFL and us fans to a degree have an affinity w/ edge rushers but outside of 3-5 plays a game they aren't very impactful. I'd be more inclined to let Chase Walk, draft an edge and put those resources towards guys who have a bigger impact play to play.

The issue is almost 10 million in dead money for Chase. If we want to move on from Carr you pretty much have to re-sign him to lower that. We are running out if moves to make to get below the cap.

Owners own, can't be fired. Managers manage and can be. And I'm not even necessarily looking for Loomis to be fired, but for him to check his ego and change course for the good of the team.
I was being a bit facetious. Of course an owner can't be fired. Organization is bringing in a new coach with new staff, so it appears the change is in process. I wish they would employ a strategy that brings in more draft picks and perhaps we will see that. At this point, it is pointless to single out Loomis. He's not going anywhere. So let's just watch what happens and give the Loomis bashing a bit of a break.

Understood, I felt the same way about Peat the year we let him walk. Thought it made more logical sense to keep him for one more year since we were already paying him in dead money. Considering that this is a class w/ DE depth I think it hurts the market for all DE's. If he's willing to take a contract that cuts us some slack I'd be all for it. Wouldn't be excited about it, but it wouldn't be a dumb move.

I don't "bash" Loomis. I talk about the job he's done. If you see pointing out his record of actions as bashing him, then maybe you aren't a big fan of the job he's done either. And don't tell me how to be a fan. If I want to talk about our GM, I will.

If we're looking to get good comp picks, Adebo and Chase Young are the most likely ones to get big enough contracts to get us some 3rds. To save cap, we could resign Juwan (not a fan personally) because he will be cheaper and has $6.5 mil in dead money coming and wouldn't likely get us a comp pick anyway.

Totally agree with you there. I’m not saying that CY can’t be impactful at times but I agree, we need to be strictly focused on return on investment. Players that down in and down out are making plays not just on 3rd and long

Yeah I’ve tried yo work the numbers on the OTC website and you are correct. Short of resigning Carr to a lesser deal (which I believe he said he wouldn’t) we have pretty limited options. Sure the new cap number is expected to increase approximately $10 mil, we can probably get under by a few more but then we will have a pretty decent size draft class ($6-7 mil) which means I don’t see us making a move in FA like fans are used to in the past.

We might be reverse dealing, letting higher paid players go and bringing in bargain value players which might not sit well with some fans but it’s what we’ll have to do. We will be fine in the long run, especially cap space wise if we just stay the course. We are projected to be 14th in cap space in a couple of years. I think with a revamped offense and defense (that other teams aren’t use to seeing the Saints utilize), a good draft, new/positive culture, youth movement if you will and a little luck health wise that we will be in contention to win the NFC South this year, and in 2026 and by 2027 be serious contenders for a championship.

I just think that we’re gonna likely catch teams off guard especially this year. I think people forget that in the NFL every player is good, parody in the NFL (despite Goodells current love affair with KC) is at an all time high. So yeah, why not us next year as one of the new teams to make the playoffs. I mean on average only half of the previous years teams make the playoffs the following year and we haven’t been in 4 so I feel like the law of averages is actually on our side (not Goodell 😂)

Excuse me, you're critical of him. Is that better? You can do what you want but it doesn't matter is my point. Unless GB decides, Loomis ain't going anywhere. Changes are coming so all we can do is comment and watch. And I did say again and again, I'm very critical of the decisions ML has made over the past 3 years. Hopefully he gets this right.

My plan laid out at the beginning of this thread accomplishes everything we need to do, we just need to only sign minimum salary players and hold off on signing draft picks until after June 1st.

Designating Carr as a June 1st cut gives us 30 million in cap space June 1st.

The Saints really need to rebuild from the ground up. Of course we need a new coach and a new QB. I would go with a coach first and work on both lines. Then a QB and a WR or two. Make this a 3 or 4 year plan to build a solid team. It can be done but not with Loomis.
I agree, we can limp along another season with Carr but we need to bring in some new talent at qb. Also in desperate need of a true tightend and oline help, wideouts and rbs, a line backer or two defensive line help and a safety. I think it’s a complete rebuild.

And the same guy that hired Payton and signed Brees. And Carr didn't put us in cap hell. SMH It was Payton telling ML what he needed along with Covid and some bad drafting ( also a lot of it Payton) and of course bad luck ( Ram M. Thomas )
That is a really good point and something that gets overlooked a ton. That was two big giant lead weights couple that with Brees retiring and Payton quiting that’s an intense run of messed up circumstances. That series of events would put any franchise in a tailspin.

At least Ryan had 2 solid seasons and MT 1 before injuries just destroyed their playing careers.

Where Loomis can be faulted is he didn’t have a plan B and has struggled to pivot.

Since when is reeeling in Moore considered an incredible accomplishment?

Loomis is the same guy that hired DA, then didn't fire him when he should have. He didn't fire PC when he should have,

He's also the guy who brought in Carr and put us in cap hell. He's also responsible for our poor drafting.

Loomis has more than enough fault on his shoulders.
Hired Sean Payton
Drafted Alvin Kamara
Yeah so he hasn't been 💯, who has?

You do realize we have to get under the salary cap right? That is the only way to do it. Take a big hit this season in Carr, restructure everyone else to get cap compliant, then next offseason you can release anyone else you want to.
Dead cap ?
