One thing I don't want in the draft (2 Viewers)

For the love of God I will punch small animals if we take another Olineman in the 1st.

Our competitive advantage of developing mid round picks into starting linemen ended when we drafted Peat. It's time we get back to developing them instead of spending a first round pick every other year on one.

It will be a shock no matter what the pick is. . . I don't think we have ever drafted anyone that was the consensus mock draft pick. DE will be what we need or OL since they are always injured.

We once did with Mark Ingram. Although, we traded back into the 1st to select him. So, I guess technically we never did with an original pick. Actually, Malcolm Jenkins (if i remember correctly) was a consensus pick for us. So, yes once

Actually I have 1A and 1B. 1A is no trading up, let the draft fall and take advantage of players you thought would be gone but are there on your pick. 1B In the 5th thru 7th round take players that are household names that play for big schools instead of trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat with guys that end up out of the league in a year.Michigan, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU etc.If not for UDFAs, we have been pretty bad lately at the back end of the draft.
I'm with you on 1A. Consensus is that we've got one of the best talent evaluators, and scouting departments in the entire NFL. Why wouldn't you let that guy make MORE picks, not fewer.

I can't get behind your 1B. We've had pretty good history with those guys under the CSP regime. Colston in the 7th; Evans in the 4th; Armstead in the 3rd(?); Deonte Harris/Hardy(?). I know those aren't the rounds you specified, but those are the schools you're talking about...Hofstra, Bloomsburg, Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Assumption. Despite their college level of competition, they were all good enough to be rated higher than "big school" players on draft boards, and I'd say they've had better NFL careers than most players from bigger schools. And looking at other rosters, and HOF players, this happens more often than I realized.

Instead, may I suggest that 1B is modified for taking players that have had an injury "history" at the collegiate level. I'm not talking about guys who got hurt on occasion, as everyone gets hurt at some point playing football. I'm talking about the guys who frequently miss stretches of games, multiple times, or have missed entire seasons. If they can't stay healthy in college, how are they gonna stay healthy against bigger, faster, stronger guys at the next level? It's silly to expect them to, and it's stupid to think they will. I'm sure there are some guys who pulled it off, but I'll bet the odds are similar to finding the next franchise QB (or even a positional GOAT?) in the 5th-7th rounds. It could happen....but 99% chance it doesn't. So QUIT DRAFTING PLAYERS WITH INJURY HISTORIES at the college level. You're just gonna end up paying them for a career of IR.

I gave the OP a " like" for the no trade- up part. I do favor players from big schools because the competition is better. But that doesn't mean you can't find a Roaf or Jahri Evans.

I want a player that was productive in college but with the tools for it to carryover in the NFL. Also, I want high character guys.

I’m fine with trading up if it means avoiding a guy like Ruiz or Turner if we stay put.

I did say lately.
Yeah, that Kaden Ellis out of Idaho (R7 2019) sucked BIG time. The winners we could have taken instead...

But at least Boston Scott (La Tech R6 2018) was an abject failure and proves your point. I mean, he only has one Super Bowl ring out of 2 appearances since 2018.

Coach Dan pretty much called Chris Olave last year.

There are so many good players that don’t go to those top schools.

A guy like Viliami Fehoko out of San Jose state who initially went to a big school, maybe LSU…

Keaton Mitchell out of East Carolina who is quick and blazing fast.

Another RB McBride who is big and agile.

OT Nick Saldiveri from Old Dominion can play guard also and has a high RAS score.

Grant Dubose wide receiver from Charlotte runs great routes and can catch.

Jonah Tavai DT San Diego State had like 50 pressures and 10 sacks.

I guess you would have passed on Jerry Rice out of Mississippi Valley State?
I detect a closet Draftnik. You know the Saints are going to break your heart. They will trade up, not pick any of these, and end up with 4 to 5 players. Look at the last 10 years. I got over it with counseling. They will also make a trade where they get screwed, see where Philly is picking this year and next. I hope Penning can play 4 straight games.

Those are draft successes, one coaching failure

I'm all for keeping your picks, and go small school, 5 thru 7.
