Pat Kirwan said he heard Carr didn’t want to do Saints contract restructure (28 Viewers)

Regarding the cap implications of cutting/trading Carr, the fact he was just paid close to $39M would suggest he’ll be here for this year. But he’s set to make $50M in salary next year, none of it guaranteed, with a $69M cap number, so if/when they cut him next year, even with his dead money it would/will create cap space.

If he’s a pre-June 1 cut in 2026 he’ll add $9M in cap space, even while carrying $59M in dead money (and then off the books in 2027). If he’s cut post-June 1, then he’d create the full $50M in cap space from his salary while carrying $19M in dead space in 2026 with the remaining $40M to hit in 2027, and then off the books in 2028 (this is probably what they’ll do).

As far as moving him this year, any moves before June 1 would mean his $59M in dead money would accelerate, and there’s no way to create that much space, so that obviously wouldn’t happen. But if they were to trade him after June 1 they would create about $1.2M in cap space in 2025, with $40M in dead money to hit in 2026, and off the books in 2027. I’d think that’s still highly unlikely, but may be what his agent is angling for (or what he was wanting to happen before his salary was converted).

I'm not sure what you're remembering. Is this really all just about the Chipotle thing?

The guy was given a lot of rope and plenty of chances to win this fanbase over. He truly started to lose fans around the Jacksonville game in 2023. It's one thing to have bad games, it comes with the territory when you're a mid-tier quarterback. But when you're throwing tantrums on the field and throwing other players under the bus, it's going to start to unravel. I think this fanbase has shown it'll root for any genuine and likeable player, regardless of consistency of play. But what do you honestly expect when a player makes zero effort to connect with the fanbase and is clearly standoff-ish, goes through spurts of playing poorly (coupled with the team losing football games), and constantly looks to throw his teammates under the bus (instances of passively and aggressively)?

No one cares about Chipotle. It's a meme and low hanging fruit to make fun of the guy. But it has nothing to do with why this fanbase doesn't like him. None of this hate he gets from fans would be a thing if he was a consistently good football player, wasn't a jerk to his teammates, and showed even an ounce of personality. Instead, he's the Dennis Allen version of quarterback. No one likes someone who seeks all the credit, but wants to shoulder zero of the blame.
Yea the same fan base absolutely loved CJGJ, the guy that’s been on as many teams as a prostitute has notches on her bed. Don’t pretend the fan base is moral. It’s a gladiator sport, good manners and good community works are not prerequisites

Same here, I've always thought Carr was just a decent bridge QB until we get our QB of the future, I still think that way.....

All the rest is BS.....one thing I was a bit shocked by was folks actually criticizing him for attempting to make an effort play and getting hurt in the process.....THAT is absolutely nuts.....
I agree. But I learn over time no matter what he does whether good or bad he will always be hated.

you can do and say all the right things to this fan base and out only buys you 3 games. Whether you’re Drew Brees or Carr. This fan base has no loyalty, none of them do. If Drew Brees needed to win the final three games of 2011 (the year after the Super Bowl win) to make the playoffs, and threw pick sixes in the final quarter of each game to lose those games, the fans would’ve turned on Drew Brees.

Part of me wants Carr to sign with Pittsburg and make it to the Super Bowl, just to put Saints “fans” in their place. By part of me, I mean all of me.
lol I wouldn’t bet the farm on that one

If he wanted out. He would of cut a deal and got out. He didn't.

Carr is 34 years old and probably missing any chance of real post season glory at this point staying with us.

So, if Carr was itching that badly to be a FA. Either he's a coward that bit his tongue or it's not true. I'm more willing to believe that it's not true.

He has no incentive at this point of his career to be loyal to a situation that he didn't want to be in to finish his career.
he's got millions and millions of incentives

So what’s the takeaway here? You hate saints fans?

Treated fairly by whom? The fans? Omg, he got booed?! I bet his feelings were hurt!

Roger Maris while going after Babe Ruth’s record was having his own team’s fans sending him daily death threats and throwing things at him on the field. The stress was so bad he began losing patches of hair. I think if Carr was in that situation, you all would have a point.

Has Carr been warmly embraced by the Saints fan base? No. He has always been the butt of the joke in the league and generally not liked.

But to act like Saints fans have destroyed his life and he is a sacrificial victim is silly. He has treated this as a transactional relationship from the start, which is fair, but don’t cry when the fan base doesn’t love you when you don’t bring wins when the relationship is transactional.

You guys need to pull him down from that cross. I’m sure it stinks not to be loved by your team, but geez you guys are acting like he and his family have been physically attacked and are under threat. He hasn’t been accosted in public or anything and I’m sure when he is in public people are nice.

This is football for Pete’s sake. If a few boos ruin your life, you are in the wrong sport.
This is all just my perspective. I'm not saying it's an objective fact and I'm not saying anyone else is wrong. I'm just saying how it looks to me.

When Carr talks about the fans, I'll I've ever heard from his is that they are passionate, supportive, deserve for the Saints to win and is doing everything he can to give them that.

Contrast that with what a very large and very vocal group of fans keep saying about Carr. Carr is not the source of negativity in that relationship dynamic.

I have not heard Carr ever complain about the booing and fan dislike. When asked about the booing, he said he understood it's just their passion for wanting the Saints to win and he wants the same thing for them, and is working hard to give it to them. He has continued to work hard to help the Saints win. He has taking a beating and kept playing to win.

The booing hasn't ruined Carr's life or his effort to help the team win, but it sure seems that Carr being on the Saints has ruined some fans ability to have any positive feelings about the Saints, and it started before he even signed his first contract.

The Saints fans have been absolute garbage to Carr. The people of New Orleans have been absolute garbage to Carr.
I'm just sharing my perspective on this specific issue. I'm not saying you're wrong or that I'm right.

I see it as some fans have been very immature, bratty, and petty regarding Carr and that some of the people of New Orleans have been the same way.

This thread makes it obvious to me that not all fans are that way regarding Carr. Carr has said that when he's out and about in the city, people are supportive and embracing of him. Carr seems to be focusing on those people while working to help the Saints win more games, because he knows that's the only thing that can win over those who are immature, bratty and petty regarding him.

The reaction to Carr's effort and injury on that play is one of many things that make it hard for me to believe that a large and vocal group of fans aren't operating strictly from personal bias against Carr.

I think that CKM studied alot of film on Rattler and decided he wasn't ready to be a starter yet....I was actually hoping for on open QB competition in TC but it looks like CKM thinks Carr is that much better than Rattler right now.....

That's not to say that Rattler won't ever be a starter (here or somewhere else) but I have a feeling that unless Carr gets hurt, it won't be here....

My gut feeling is CKM is looking to draft the QB of the future, and my guess is next year.....
I don't think it took a lot of film study to know that SR is not ready to be a starter if your goal is anything but a throwaway season. I see more reason to believe that Tyson Bagent would be a better starter than SR. Or even Joe Milton.
Something would be very wrong if CKM would not be looking to draft our future QB , just due to the fact that DC is 34

It would be nice if Carr had a big enough set to put these rumours to rest but instead I suspect there is truth to this and that’s why we aren’t hearing anything shut down
Why should he? You would only interpret it to be that he was just apeasing people or he was fake or some other derogatory remark.
Really I think you and a lot of other even if we won the SB with DC would find some way to minimize his contribution or play his role down in it

Derek Carr is a middle of the road QB. His record is what it says he is....77-92. He's been to one playoff game in his career. He didn't get off on the right foot because he was blowing up receivers on the field when he was performing at a mediocre level. BTW I don't buy the whole hospital ball crap some of the receivers were accusing him of.

Getting into it with his lineman Erik Mccoy in front of the Superdome didn't help. I realize other QB's have gotten after their teammates but they had skins on the wall. This guy doesn't. If he was a winner on the field it may have given him some leeway.

Add to that he hasn't embraced the city and the franchise and we are where we are. His final nail was refusing a pay cut when the like of Tyrann and Cam both took cuts to help the team and franchise. He's a me guy not a team player.
I have to ask, do you really think that a QB , ANY QB is solely responsible for the W/L record and if a team gets into the playoffs??? Because you cited both as a negative about DC. How is the QB responsible for what the defense does? In the NFL offenses have a 60/40 pass/run ratio. So if the QB hands the ball off to the RB 40% of the time how is that QB responsible for the outcome of those plays? I would really appreciate a rational answer please.

QBs, no matter how many skins they have on the wall get on players for a number of reasons. Heck Bo Nix was yelling at Payton on the sidelines and he's a ROOKIE
