Speculation Pat Kirwan thinks Aaron Glenn will be next Saints head coach (2 Viewers)

There's a lot of Loomis decisions over the last three years that remind me of the Chris Rock bit on OJ...-But I understand

I really think that they looked at Sean's last season as a fantastic coaching job with really difficult circumstances. Sean didn't do it alone and they didn't want to blow the staff out when he quit. - I understand

When hiring the replacement I think they knew if they hired Rizzi or Aaron Glenn, they would lose Allen for being passed over and the defense was playing fantastic. - I understand

And so on and so on.

Now this cycle is completely different. The palate has been cleansed. I said it in another thread but If you want to raid the Lions give me:

Aaron Glenn HC
Ray Agnew GM
Tanner Engstrand OC

I would like the new head coach to have his own personnel guy that shares his vision. Too many examples recently with San Fran, Buffalo and KC where getting the coach and letting him bring in someone that shares his vision has paid off. Mickey can be the EVP/Minister of Culture.
I think this is a pretty good analysis, and without KNOWING what happened behind closed doors, I'd bet money that you are very close if you didn't nail a bullseye.

I didn't like the DA hire, because I didn't like the way his defense seemed to fold way too often in clutch moments, but I also felt he deserved a shot. I understood the logic, and I was onboard. After that 1st season, I had seen enough to confirm that DA was a mistake and I was ready to move on. But if ML was inclined to give him another year, it made sense to get DA the QB he wanted and revamp the offense. Fine...I don't it will help, but I'll play along...

After year 2, I was sure the handwriting was on the wall and DA was gone. I was honestly shocked (and a little PISSED at management) for allowing a 3rd season to continue. I was sure it was a STUPID thing to do, and preseason seemed to bear that out. Then the Saints spiked off those 2 monster victories to start the season 2-0...and I watched them dismantle the Cowboys in Texas Stadium on national television; take the Cowboys lunch money, and made the Cowboys watch as they ate their lunch right in front of them. I fell for it....talked myself into believing I was wrong and the Saints were right. Little did we know that the Panther & Cowboys were 2 of the worst teams in the NFL this year. The Eagles & Falcons games showed familiar chinks in the armor, with the offense stalling out, and the defense folding in the most critical moments, despite being relatively healthy, especially compared to the toothless offense. Nothing had changed on the defensive side, and that was DA's domain. Each game the defense got worse. Every passing week I was getting MORE and MORE torqued that I would have to watch 3/4 of a season that was going to look like seasons 1 & 2, but worse. I'm flogging a dead horse....we all saw it....we all know.

I am HOPING for that COMPLETE palate cleansing you speak of. I don't want ML picking the next HC. Keep ML in the building...promote him...fire him...retire him...I DON'T CARE, as long as we have a new GM, and as long as Rizzi gets an interview IF he finishes the season 5-3 or better. Honestly, if Rizzi finishes 5-3 or better, I think he earned the right to remove the Interim label. But if a new GM is blown away by a HC candidate that is OBVIOUSLY better than 5-3 Rizzi, I'll be okay with that too.

But that doesn't necessarily make you a winning head coach. Payton, Belichick, and Saban were all great head coaches and all were evasive and opaque. And BB and Saban were downright butt crevasses.

It seems to be pretty important. When I look at the top 10 coaches in the NFL most seem to have this trait in 2024.

If we are hiring someone who’s been here already from the SP era, we might as well just hire from within.

Get some fresh blood and ideas in here.

I’m fine with Glenn if he brings in all new people with original ideas. We do NOT need to continue doing what we’ve been doing.

I am bit amazed at how many are already supporting Rizzi as the potential next HC. This team needs a complete rebuild. Rizzi winning one game (where Koo missed 3 FGs) does not make me a believer.
Rizz needs to go at least 4-3/5-2 for me to consider him. I liked what I saw in just a short week of prep though.

Koo had one blocked remember? Falcons got lucky too at the end when AK dropped one of the easiest passes of his career.

Who's the OC? That's the second most important question, after whether he's a leader of men. I understand the preference is for the next Payton or McVay, but we can't ignore great coaches like Belichick, Tomlin, and others.

I'm personally not sold yet, but he's got a shot. The truth is we're going to have to take a shot on someone maybe not at the top of everyone's chart. This is where we're going to truly find out if Loomis knows ball or not. If he chooses correctly, all of this Loomis hatred will be gone. If he fails again, it's the end of an era some saw earlier. End of story.

Yeah, I mean Sean Payton got playcalling duties taken away from him when he was the Giants' OC. Just b/c someone isn't a great coordinator every season doesn't mean they can't be a good coach.
Yeah it was Fassel that took play calling away from SP that guy was more conservative than Zimmer

Glenn was already with the Lions. But I think DA would've left if he didn't get the job.
DA was announced within a week of AG going to the Lions if they wanted AG they would have hired him

With AG you are going to get DA's defensive philosophy. I'd rather not have the bend but don't break way of doing things

Was listening to Moving the Chains yesterday on NFL Network. The were discussing Lions coaches and how they will likely lose some. The hosts Pat Kirwin and another dude that was sitting in for Jim Miller mentioned that if they were betting they would put their money on Aaron Glenn returning to the Saints.
This would be a mistake. AG is a good defensive coordinator. I'd stop there.
