Payton and Belichick are looking like geniuses for getting rid of Brandin Cooks (1 Viewer)

Emptiest WR numbers in the league for anyone not named "Jones."

Cooks is the textbook example of the line between "very good" and "great."

He's productive every where he's gone...made some plays in a game where few plays were made....yall butthurt he left because he was a beast when he wore black and gold too...

Butthurt? Lol, we're happy he's gone because we have the Ram now who's a better RT than Cooks is a WR.

Cooks needs to learn to play more physical in clutch moments. He tends to do the opposite, instead. That is what separats a solid #2 from a legit #1.Don't give me the "size" excuse. Steve Smith Sr was known for exactly this. The guy ws clutch in big moments for a long time. He played much bigger than his physical size.

He didn't leave, genius, he was traded.

Bottom line is that Cooks knew he couldn’t outplay Thomas. They both wanted to be #1 .

Suposedly he and Thomas butted heads. Thomas came in with the intent to he #1. Thomas is bigger than Cooks. Thomas had a good rookie year.

Cooks knew he couldn’t outplay Thomas and got scared.

Agree, that has always been his problem. I think Payton traded up to draft Cooks with Steve Smith in mind. I think he saw the next Steve Smith in Brandin Cooks. But, Cooks soon proved he could never be as physical as Smith to make the tough catches in key moments he would have to make given his size.

I saw too many times a 50-50 ball thrown to Cooks while he was with us that he simply could not make. Give him his his due, he tries hard, has desire to improve and has been a solid receiver in his career, but he's no where near as good as he sees himself to be (at least so far in his career).

I like the results of the trade for us - Ramczyk and Cook's salary dump. But some of the Cook's criticism is unwarranted. Cooks was a disappointment in the open field, an area we though he'd excel at and never filled the #1 receiver role adequately. What he has been good at is straight line speed, vertical leap and good hands. That's exactly what he's displayed with the Saints, N.E. and LA Rams. Again, I like where we netted out, but Cooks has been pretty good his whole NFL career.

Cooks is a decent #2 who needs a legitimate #1 to look good....Cooks is weak and defenses can punish him. Cooks disappears at times in games. If you wanna be honest Ginn was an upgrade over Cooks. Too bad Ginn was hurt this past season, he’s actually tough.

I don't think anyone here is butthurt that he's gone. Like, at all. We have Ram now so it's all good.

And was he really a beast with the Saints? Michael Thomas is a beast. He's the definition of a beast. Cooks is just regular "good". Not everyone has to be a beast. Not everyone has to be great. He's just a good WR.

He's definitely not worth the big money that the Rams are paying him. Lol
While I wouldn't pay Cooks what he's making as a Ram and I definitely would not keep Cooks in favor of not drafting Ryan Ramcyck, Brandon Cooks opposite Michael Thomas catching passes from Drew is unstoppable.

There was a Pats game last year...………..can't even remember which one...………..where Brady threw a 50/50 deep ball for Cooks, and rather than make any attempt at an adjustment...…...he just kept running his route, and the ball landed wherever it landed. I remember thinking right then: "he isn't gonna last long with the Patriots". Obviously the guy can get behind a defense.....but it seems like he expects the ball to land in a certain spot.....and if it doesn't, it simply doesn't get caught.

I don't really remember noticing that with the Saints...…...but I do remember others pointing out similar things. I guess I just mentally blew it off at the time because I was giving him the benefit of the doubt and he was such a great deep threat.

Troy Aikman now always points out every time he does a Rams game how surprised he is that Cooks got traded away from 2 teams. Maybe eventually he'll see that where there's smoke, there's fire.

I think its possible that the trades for and from Cooks have worked out well for all involved. He was clearly the Rams' best offensive player in the game on Sunday, and went for over a hundred against us in the NFCCG while Michael Thomas managed less than 50 yds. Gurley II seems to be the player that disappears in big games.
Cooks was a mid first round pick and has played that way, unlike quite a few other first round receivers recently. He's 25 and has over 5k receiving yards. He's good. He may not have been the dude for us at his open market price point, but three excellent coaches has have sought him out to play for them.
