The top 100 I was using had him at #68---by FAR the lowest rated 1st round pick. Just disappointing considering there was highly (or at least higher) rated prospects at CB, LB & WR. Watching the film I can see where the FO is intrigued---HUGE wingspan, lot of speed, the 5 games he played he was a force. But....would really have liked to see us grab a 1st or early 2nd round graded corner

Love the pick. Games are won in the trenches and teams built from the inside out. The 1st goal of a team is to win their division. The NFC South has 2 loaded offenses with aging borderline statue QBs with Ryan and Brady. Darnold is young and new to the division with weapons in Carolina. What's the saying about how to make corners look good, yeah it something about a great pass rush. Getting after these stiffs will be a priority. I am glad they took one of the most physically gifted DEs instead of the 6th CB since there are other CBs later in the draft that may fit the defense better. This dude has a 7' wingspan and one of his strengths is "Finisher". Someone thought they'd be cute and knock the guy on not being as strong as Calais Campbell, well Campbell (16 reps) didn't even do as many reps at 225lbs than Ja'Marr Chase while Turner knocked out 23 reps. There's a lot to like here.

Does Jordan slide inside, Dav swap over and Turner take Dav's spot? Is Turner Jordan's future replacement. Who knows, but it's great to have disruptive depth at DE.

Just because you or any other fan haven’t heard of him doesn’t mean he isn’t talented.

Our front office has drafted very well the past few years, our recently promoted assistant HC (former defensive line coach) turned one of our worst units to its best. Do your research and you’ll see hit fits exactly what we needed and that’s all that matters.
Our last two 1st rounders were Davenport and Ruiz. Since 2018 only a few legit contributors...McCoy, CJGJ, maybe Trautman?

I think people are jumping to conclusions by calling him a Marcus Davenport clone . . .

Davenport ran a 4.58.

Turner ran a 4.95.

We’ll get all that cliche stuff. Business as usual...which was kind of the motivation behind my “vision for the player” post. That’s one of their favorites.

Yeah you already picked their favorite so I went with their 2nd favorite but they can't use it this time. I'm sure we'll hear about his versatility.

Lots of people are saying this so I am replying to you and all of them.

You have no idea the inner workings of teams, assuming you can just trade back isn't like assuming you can just head down the road to a 7/11... it's not about wanting to do it, it is about finding a deal that you can do it at. This front office as been pretty damn on point in the draft the last handful of years, why does that not generate some trust? I remember people clowning the Alvin Kamara pick using the exact same 'logic'. Sometimes you just get the guy you want and sometimes you can manipulate up and down the board to get him, sometimes you don't have the right deal available to make. Trust the guys who have built a damn good team in the draft when they make the picks, and judge them AFTER you have seen results. Anything said beforehand is just petty, and proof you care more about names you heard of than the entire organization who it is their job to get this right.
I'm just going to read your replies from now on and ignore the chicken littles

Well...his interview made me feel good. Not sure what that’s worth, but he seems like a Payton guy. Character, intelligent, high energy/motor, physical specimen, wants to play for Saints, knows Cam’s game well. Just seems like the kind of person and athlete Sean gravitates to.

I'm just curious, and please be honest.

How many of you have heard of Payton Turner? I don't watch too much college ball anymore
Heard of him-yes
But I’ve worked weekends this past year, so catching Houston games were none of my concern. I’m not versed on Turner, but I just feel like we keep chasing our tails with picks like this. We just exercised Davenport’s fifth year option. If he doesn’t prove himself, then draft a DE next year. We have DE depth before this pick. So, why not use the pick to draft someone that can contribute now? That’s what the first rd is for, unless you draft a QB to groom.

I will say this though:
“IF” we use him like the Giants used Justin Tuck (apparently he can kick inside), then this could be a great pick. I can’t help but be concerned about the LB spot though. I’m sure we will be fine at CB. I’m never at ease with our LB unit as a whole. Just my $.02

If that is accurate either
1. He’s moving inside
2. Saints drafters are idiots

after the 2010 playoff debacle in Seattle then again after 2011 loss to Niners, I said Daints have to draft speedier DEs and LBs. If they just drafted a guy at DE who runs only a 4.95, Simone should be fired.
