I’m approaching 2022 like CGM isn’t even on the team.

I thought the same when the news he was gone for the year came out but I don’t know now. The relationship between MT and the Saints seems to have improved, his trade value is currently minimal, he’s top 3 when healthy and it only costs us about $5 million more to restructure his contract instead of trading him. I hope we take the risk and keep him. MT, OBJ and Harris would be a strong receiver group.

What would be the point in OBJ choosing us if he’s only here for the rest of the year? Surely if he’s coming here it’s because SP has managed to sell him the future and the prospect of playing in a contending team from 2022 onwards.

Its the middle of the season and his value is probably lower now than at any point in his career. He needs this to prove his value. His base salary this year was 14.5 million on a 5yr/95 million deal. I assume he thinks he is worth that. His value, coming off an injury last season and a shaky go in Cleveland, is nowhere near that. He isnt getting younger, his next contract will likely be his last big money deal. We, or anyone else, arent going to pay him what he thinks his value is right now. These 9 weeks are a proving ground for him.

Not just here, but why would he sign anywhere longer than this season? His only leverage is to play the rest of this season and show he still has it. Right now he is a diva WR coming off a knee injury and has missed 28 games over the last 4+ seasons.
