OBJ is going to be a FA again this offseason. If this comes out as a multiyear deal, its going to include a bunch of voidable years and signing bonus spread out so that he can hit the market again. Meaning more dead money for us in future years for a 9 week rental.

It’s already been reported that SP is giving OBJ a vision of keeping him more than one year if he wants. I’m sure that included a deal with $ close to where we value him right now.

I do think the voidable year scenario is most likely. But I also think SP is pitching OBJ on the idea of this being more than a 9-week rental.

Im all for bringing him in, but not if its going to limit actually fixing the roster holes in the future. Restructure someone that will be here next year to pay for him, but we gotta stop this dead money stuff.

What would be the point in OBJ choosing us if he’s only here for the rest of the year? Surely if he’s coming here it’s because SP has managed to sell him the future and the prospect of playing in a contending team from 2022 onwards.

I just heard on NFL Network that the Pats are pushing hard. Wonder if this is just talk.

He has nothing to lose signing with us and a ton to gain if signs for the remainder of the season. He is going to get more targets from us than any of the other suitors. Then he goes to the highest bidder next season.
