Article PJ Williams named NFC defensive player of the week. (2 Viewers)

I mean, its just against a top ten offense in the league with arguably the best wide receiver tandem in recent memory, one of which on an all time historic pace, with an $82 million quarterback tossing them the ball, so yeah. No big deal.

Tbh, he wasn’t up against Jerry Rice and TO with Steve Young tossing them the pigskin. He made some big plays which won him the award, but he also gave up some big plays.

Once again, this is more an indictment against the voters who probably just looked at the stat sheet, and not the actual play of the player.

I'm so sick of some of the attitudes in this thread. It really is disgusting. Yes, he gave up yards and TDs to Thielen and Diggs - but so has every other defense that they have played. Thielen has literally put up 8 straight 100 yard games to start the season which ties an NFL record. The Cousins to Thielen combo cannot be stopped.

Every secondary in the NFL has a weak link, and guess what? They all get picked on. This isn't Jason David out there. This is a quality football player who is put in a bad spot by playing out of his natural position.

He made two HUGE football plays that elevated us into winning this game on the road. We don't win without him making those plays, I promise you that. And it was recognized league wide how critical those plays were by winning those honors.

And to those crapping on his pick 6 because of Diggs stopping on his route: I dont care how much of a "gift" that interception was. Do you guys watch football? At least 75% of interceptions are exactly that - defenses capitalizing on mistakes. He did exactly what he was supposed to do and he's getting no credit for it from some of you.

You all should be ashamed of yourselves. We are 6-1, just won two HUGE games on the road, and our defense is starting to make big time plays. Always need something to complain about, huh?

Or they actually watched the football game and saw that we don't win the football game without him making those plays.

This isn’t a negative attitude. I have been a big supporter of this defense for years, and enjoy tracking their progress, which is why I am stupified by Williams winning this award.

Like I originally said, congrats to him.

It really isn't. I think you need to familiarize yourself with the year that Adam Thielen is having, and realize that there isn't a single corner in the league that he hasn't brutalized this season.

Which is why it’s so odd that Williams won the award. Because Williams has a pick 6 he won the award? Because it wasn’t based on anything else in his play.

Did you watch the football game? Just curious. The fact that you don't understand why he won the award is pretty funny.

The forced fumble before halftime led directly to 7 points for us. Instead of going into halftime down 20-10, or at best 16-10, we went into halftime up 17-13.

Oh, and that measly little pick 6 resulted in another 7 points.

No big deal though. I'm sure there were dozens of other much more deserving candidates.

PJ Williams? When did you start posting here? :D

Of course I watched the game (most all of us did). 2 PI, 9 targets in coverage, 8 completions for 114 yards and 2 tds. If anyone else had won the award we would be questioning the validity of the award as well.

Congrats to him, maybe this is the thing that sends him on his way to greatness.

He made several impact plays. Directly involved in two turnovers. Against.... you know what? Nevermind. Be a rain cloud if you must. But know that it's making you look rather foolish.

Nobody is being a rain cloud, it’s just an odd stat line and performance to win a DPOW with.

If the award had gone to Rankins who had 2 sacks and shut down the run game that would have made more sense.

Congrats to PJ.

So wait - before it was the voters who simply just looked at the stat sheet and that won him the award:

But wait.. aren't those... stats...? Thielen and Diggs were going to get their yards going in and we knew that. They get their yards every single game regardless of who they are playing.

PJ made two big time plays and without them we don't win the game, period. That was good enough to win him the honors. If you think that the catches he gave up makes him undeserving, that's fine. But you do indeed have it backwards. His big time plays that lead directly to 14 points won him the award. Not a stat sheet.

Umm I don't know the dude was so up and down the entire game is was frustrating. He went from zero to hero back to zero then to hero back to zero. I would of named him the Defensive Inconsistent Player of the Week. Don't get me wrong I love the turnovers and I hope he gets more but it is what it is.

Because he won the game. Period. there was 21 point difference because of him. 14 off turnovers and stopping them in the red zone for a -7 on the vikings.

You make some excellent points, one thing you gotta consider though is some people are gonna be negative no matter what. That's just what they do, they find a problem for every solution. If you walked into a room of 100 sports fans whats the odds of 1 of them being a complete tool? I'd say close to ?. With that being said SR.com is infinity better than most social media platforms comment sections with regards to opinions. Usually the guys with the loudest, most negative replys aren't the brightest of the bunch. If you can even comprehend their often moot points and suffer through their incorrect spelling, chances are you won't leave their message with any more insight than you started with. Let them post that nonsense, PJ had a great Game given the fact that he's a natural boundary corner playing the slot vs one of the best passing attacks in the leauge on the road. Saints held the vikes to 20pts, and his big plays where a large part of that.
