Play Haener (1 Viewer)

After rewatching several Jake Haener videos. I think I want the Saints to leave QB alone this draft and roll with Haener as #2.

Let Haener beat Petetson in camp, which he absolutely will, and back up Carr in 2024. I actually think Haener could be an excellent QB in a smart offense. And listen, I understand Peterson has experience with the coaches and system, but Haener is smart and he will know the playbook and offense. I think Haener is the clear frontrunner.

Here's some videos if you want to see what I and others see.

What stood out to me in this video was Jake's ability to grasp and recall; Confidence in what he's doing; Naturally looks to take his place as alpha when the opportunity presents (watch body language of Haener and Mariucci after the "post corner post 90s play"comment. He has leadership confidence and intelligence. He's a natural competitor. You know one when you see one.

What may stand out to you in this video is what he was able to do at Fresno State in close games. Watch him play and it's easy to see his excellent anticipation and confidence, and that carries over to big moments.

Heck, just watch his Saints' work. His first NFL pass is EXACTLY who he is. If it isn't there or he doesn't see the play, he has a natural feel for throwing on the run. That's dangerous. You'll see him make nice throws on scrambles fairly often iwhen you watch some of his Fresno State games.

Watch him suit up and play his first NFL snap in his role model QB's uniform, facing the team who let that same hero leave to Free Agency. Haener wore #9 because his favorite player was Drew Brees. Honestly amazing coincidence that will put some people on alert. He's a sharp guy who had great success in a Tedford pro style offense.

Seems clear to me, if it walks like a duck...

And then you get to watch him perform with the pressure on, but now in an NFL uniform. Still looks good. The potential is evident.

I really liked the video of him with Mariucci.

Fantastic post.
I'm sorry it's a ridiculous post. Every real NFL scout puts in 100's more hours watching film, going to see players in person and have yrs of training and playing experience at a higher level than ANYONE on this or any other forum. They are not in that position because that's the direction their career path decided to take, it's because their career as a player/coach at a high level gave them the knowledge they need to do the job. If the draft were an exact science EVERYBODY could do it. It's stupid to say that a scout did not do a good job on Davenport and Turner because NOBODY can predict injuries, and it's injuries that have hampered their career's. Here's another thing if a poster on any forum is wrong,no sweat of his back. If a scout is wrong, he gets FIRED. Also it's NOT up to the scout who gets drafted , where and if a trade is made. SMH

Haener will have his shot in the preseason. He's a very smart and accurate passer, knows how to move around the pocket and keep his hips square/eyes downfield BUT... he is very small. I really noticed it when he played in the preseason. Gonna be hard to take the hits in the NFL

Before y'all come for me, I know drew was small too but not this small.
He's bigger than Bryce Young and almost the same size as Brees
Brees - 6'0 209 Haener 6'1" 201 virtually no difference

Go after me all you want … but all of this … why? … about the post in general … I still believe … not always sure why but I have to, It’s who I am. And I’m more than good with that. I still believe and bleed black and gold
Me, too. I will always pull for whoever wears the jersey, regardless of who that individual might be. It is impossible for me to hope some Saint plays/coaches poorly just to prove a point.

I believe, too.

I still believe he could be good in this new system, too. Count me in the Haener camp #.

Carrying a clip board behind an older, mediocre QB makes no sense. I think we should play Haener at backup or draft another QB in round 1.

Lol most of the people in this thread made statements based on their belief Allen was coaching for his job.

Wasn’t last year, won’t be this year.
I fear you are correct. Bought himself another year with the built-in excuse of "first year with a brand new offense and OC." Seems like all a Saints HC needs to do to keep his job is to "not quit" and "not have sex with cheerleaders."

The first time I met Drew Brees I was shocked at his size. He was not nearly as small as the media made him out to be. He was a solid 6 foot man. I was expecting a small frail 5’9 ish. From my experience meeting NFL players they are always much smaller than the media make them out.

I agree with your point. And based on this being their job and what they’ve trained to do you would expect them to be better than fans or reporters but unfortunately that’s often not the case.

I was shocked by a picture of Brees, Pierre, and Vilma all standing together, and Brees was clearly the tallest.

I met Leroy Glover, he was much smaller than I expected, not nearly as big as listed. My brother met Danny Wuerful and said he looked like he weighed about 145 lbs and may have been 5’11” in cowboy boots. My point is the maedia may list Brees and Haener as similarly sized but on the field Haener looks much smaller.

I don't doubt it, but here's what the combine lists for Haener: That 207 is probably 215 by now. Vertical and broad aren't bad for a stubby QB. Drew said he wasn't quite 6', IIRC 5-11-3/4 but close enough.

  • Height/Weight: 6’0″, 207 pounds
  • Arm Length: 29 3/4″
  • Hand: 9 3/8″

  • Vertical Jump

    35’’

    Broad Jump

    9’ 6’’

    3-Cone Drill

    7.01

I never met Brees, but I did know dozens of the Saints in the Mora era. There are some absolute BEASTS playing in the NFL! The only bigger human I've ever met was Shaq, in his Soph season @ LSU! He got bigger every step he took from the front door to the Food Bar(& he kept growing for a few more years)! I always thought he would have excelled as TE in the Endzone offense & a DT on FG defense!
Don't hold our Jr. High looking kicker to that standard, lol!

Willie Roaf in person was a mountain of a man, Duece was way bigger in than I expected. And someone mentioned meeting Turley and they said he was huge. So I’m not saying all players are undersized.

Sorry but you nor I really don't know which scouts say what about certain players. Even the info they put out may just be misinformation to shy other teams away from players they like . It's not the scout's job to draft a player where or when. AND it's always more than 1 or 2 scouts evaluation that a coach or GM has to go on when making a decision. Believe me they ARE better than fans or reporters.
