Rattler is the only right answer (1 Viewer)

Just like Taysom, right :geek: Some of us remember all of the claims since Drew left and the posters that made them. I was wrong about Jameis, and Ratt can be a bridge. Great probably not, the numbers are not in his favor.

Leave my HOFer out ya mouth…. Had Tay been given the keys to the car after Brees…. We’d have 2 more division titles and no Carr contract to deal with…. Nor all the endless insanity that was the JW fan boy lonely hearts club. And yeah, you were wrong…. And you should have known better.

Rattler can be more than a bridge…. Or he could bomb. We gotta see.

What? Caleb has 17 touchdowns and 5 ints. Rattler had 2 touchdowns and 2 ints.
Caleb has 14 starts to Rattler’s 3 starts though. He was installed as the Bears’ starter with his 1st team unit all offseason.

3 of Caleb’s touchdowns were in garbage time after the Bears were put away by the 4Q. Another 3 are in comeback attempts after the Bears were down 3 possessions. He’s only thrown 3 TDs in the first halves of 14 games.

TD/ints don’t show how inconsistent and underwhelming he’s been for a #1 pick. He’s had 2, maybe 3 good games out of 14.

Bears should be no worst than 7-7, instead of 4-10, with Caleb/DJ/Keenan/Odunze, as much as Caleb was said to be the next great QB and an upgrade over Fields.

And is just proof that you can't just read the box scores and make your decision from there. Watching Caleb is like watching Tampa-vintage Jameis with fewer turnovers. Constant hero ball. He has no pro instincts and is completely unwilling to take what the defense gives him. He's always looking for the kill shot. Great when you're playing the California School of Dentistry, not so great when you're playing the Lions.

I saw a video on YT about teams stuck in mediocrity pergatory and how they can get out of it. I could tell this guy wasn't very close to the Saints, but his first move was to offload Carr and save 30mil toward the cap.

I think the issue is Carr has looked good when the team is healthy and so there is still the argument that Carr, with a healthy season behind a healthy O line, can get us into top seed territory. Add to that the desire to get the ROI on him.

Rattler has the opportunity in front of him to prove that the Saints can ride with him as QB1 in 2025. He will start against GB on Monday night and potentially start the rest of the season. Stats alone wont tell the whole story but this should be a serious evaluation by the team in these final weeks.

I think it would be a bold move to cut ties with Carr and call Rattler the QB of 2025, but I think it could be a smart strategy that takes cleaning the books seriously while setting us up for the future. Icing on the cake would be that Rattler is the real deal and we are that much better off by not having to look for a new QB in 2026.

Dude's got upside. Give him reps, develop him. He put up 19 points in the 2nd half last week, for a points-starved team.

I guess in your universe a 1-1 TD-INT ratio, 70 QB rating, and getting benched in 2 of 3 starts is better than 3-1 TD-INT ratio and 88 QB rating. There’s no way you can make an argument that Rattler has outplayed Caleb.

I’m saying Williams does not stand out from Rattler in real time impact right now. In short time, a 5th round QB is playing on the same level as the #1 overall pick in sustaining drives and leading the offense to points and still improving. Rattler’s benching was to evaluate the other young QB who was drafted a year before him. Yet, Rattler came off the bench and led the Saints to all of their 19 points in one half. Thats the point I was making where Williams is playing similar but has a longer leash as the #1 overall pick who had full QB1 reps since May.

Williams has very misleading passing stats. He isn’t recording a significant portion of his TDs and yards during the first 2-3 quarters while his games are still competitive. Truer comparisons between the two would be first downs per drive, first downs per game, their total offensive points including FG pts, # of scoring drives, and the # of TDs when their teams are within two possession scores or better.

You can off load Carr and save 30 mill? How’s that?

Rattler was really impressive Sunday. Him being an NFL starter quality QB and getting him in the 5th round would be huge. He could help us reset the cap. OP is not wrong

I would be really surprised if Rattler can be a good QB in the NFL. He was benched for turning the ball over at USC, and fans were boo’ing him. Rumors out of OU is that’s why he chose to leave OU. He was sour pants after the fans grew frustrated of his turnovers.

We haven’t seen a lot of Rattler. But we have seen his tendency to turn the ball over similar to his time spent in OU.

Just for comparison, Rattler threw 32 ints in 4 years while Jayden Daniels threw 20 in 5 years.

We’ve already seen a couple in his limited snaps this year. It’s possible Rattler ends up being another interception machine similar or even worse then Winston.

Not trying to beat the kid down, but if your getting excited thinking he’s the answer or should be our QB going forward, probability says your very likely setting yourself up for disappointment.

I think the more realistic idea is that he has a chance here to prove that he should be the backup going forward while we hunt for a future starting QB

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/14445/derek-carr according to spotrac you get almost 30 million if he’s a post June 1st trade but have a dead cap hit of 21 million in 2025 and 28 million in 2026. They could get 40 million as a post June 1 trade. Ross Jackson says he has guarantees that kick in like the 3rd or 5th day of the new league year. One is like 10 million. So they will have to get Carr to push back those guarantees or waive the no trade clause to do a post June cut or trade.
