IMHO Niners with their method will get back to deep playoff runs sooner than Saints. They will have shot at at franchise QB sooner.
I like your plan espousing for some time now to trade down in each of the first three rounds for the next two drafts thereby doubling their picks.Pick up a guard in FA and a vetran X and/or a stating caliber CB, then get in the draft and trade back a couple times and hit on a late first rounder like we did with Ram and Cam.
Pick up a couple bosses in rounds 2 like MT and McCoy, then steal two first round talents in the 3rd round like we did with AK and Trey Henderson. Find a guy in the 4th with
the talent level of CGJ, Onyemata, or Anzalone, then shock the universe in the late rounds and find a gem like Colston. Better yet... find a Purdy.
Piece of cake. I wanna be GM. Mostly for the money, but it seems fun and easy.
I would too. By trading up for Ward it would show that its a KM's staff decision and a decision that KM would risk his career against. Also the move would follow the normal procedure when you change staffs. The new coach normally gets his own ride or die QB. I also like the player in Ward. He's got the "it" factor. He's similar to Shadeur in ability, but Ward seems to have a better grip on how long to extend a play. Or know when a play is over, compared to Shadeur. Id be happy with either. But especially happy if one of them falls to us at 9 and the staff literally selects him within 10 seconds of their time allotted. When i look at the rest of the Qbs in the draft there is only 2 that have abilities that Rattler doesn't have, and thats elite escape ability. With that said, i wouldn't be upset with Tyler Shaugh as he's similar to Rattler but has the elite height you want at QB. I hope we find a way to come out of this draft with one of themSorry, I do remember you stating this earlier. I had forgotten. Too much age and too many concussions lol.
Thank you for repeating. I sure would LOVE LOVE LOVE them to trade up and get Ward! Go for the gusto, not smart, I know.
Next to the team winning the Super Bowl in my lifetime (check) I’d love to see the team draft a QB high before I leave this big old rock.

I have Rattler 3rd/4th as well. Ward, Shadeur, Shaugh, Rattler. I also heard that from Nick Underhill, but i don't give it much weight because its lazy. Because Rattler has shown that he can do it in the NFL. The Saints did not lose any games because of Rattler. Rattler didnt win you any games, either. But did we conveniently forget that Rattler started his first couple of games over Haener, because he ran for his life better. And because he had more practice running for his life in college. Rattler looked as poised, running for his life, than Haener/Carr did without pressure. Also Rattler had a ton of drops. If anything Rattler shouldve moved up on their boards, ESPECIALLY over Dart. For all we know, Ward, Sanders, Dart and Shaugh can straight up bust under the NFL lights, where we know Rattler wont.FWIW, Underhill talked to several NFL scouts who said Rattler would be behind Dart if he was in this draft. Some had Rattler 4th and some had him behind either the Louisville QB and somebody else that I can't recall. So it sounds like Rattler would be around QB #4 or #5 if he was in this draft.
He also said that the Saints "love" Ward.
The 49ers draft well and get a lot of comp picks. They have 11 selection this year. They let guys go and reload through the draft.
On this point you are making, I don't know if they think Carr is the best option to build around. He is the best option at QB this year, and by all accounts they could move on from him next year if they wanted to. He doesn't seem like the QB of the future unless he shows something else this year. In any case, he doesn't seem like he can elevate the play around him and the days of the Saints D being formidable are long gone, so the offense has to pull its weight too.We are watching two different strategies right now on rebuilding.
New Orleans is riding the wave of the salary cap. They were not able to release Derek Carr because they think he is the best option to build around, and also because of cap consequences.
The Ravens went 5-11,8-8 and 9-7 in the yrs up till they drafted Jackson @ 32Winning 10 games a year as you look for your franchise QB is borderline impossible and an almost ridiculous standard to hope for. Saints haven't won 10 games since Brees left and we also had multiple sub 10 win seasons with Brees.
Much more realistic to win 6-8 games a year and be stuck in purgatory like the majority of teams.
Because our issue is not just that we are a mediocre team. We are a mediocre team that is incredibly expensive and old.
Agree with you on this one. There really isn't one way that works better than the other. Everything centers around drafting well. Which despite our tragic drafting the last 5ish years I believe Fuaga was a great start.
49ers play in a bad division much like the Saints do. In the NFC WEST i only see maybe the Rams being decent. AZ, SEA are going to be bad.
Both teams have a chance to be decent and be a playoff contender. With 7 playoff spots it doesn't take much to be in the mix.
