Ross Jackson explores a Carr trade to Giants [ESPN NFL Nation Giants reporter Jordan Raanan says Derek Carr could be a trade option for Giants] (2 Viewers)

Making the playoffs (winning your division) is every team's goal to start with... anything can happen from there.
2011 Giants won the SB after going 9-7 in the regular season.
14 years ago. And what team before that? None. It's an anomaly. You're even more likely to win a Super Bowl as the wildcard team coming from a good division, which has happened 6 times. And even the last one of those was 15 years ago. I'm not even betting your money on those odds.

Weren’t the Jets contenders to land Carr when we were trying to sign him? If they are moving on from Aaron, they may consider a 2 year investment (remainder of current deal) in DC. His remaining deal Isn’t crazy when you consider the cost of a middling QB.

Word is that AG wants Aaron to stay.
We will give you Carr, Loomis, Olave and a 4th, as well as pay a good bit of Carr’s salary for DT Dexter Lawrence II (9 sacks this year) and WR Malik Naibers

Lol make it happen Gale
Man I wish! I’d do it just for Lawrence. He’s a stud.

I kinda think Carr would be open to waiving his no trade clause. It’s not working out here. The clock is ticking on his career so he only has a few years left to try to do something beyond just piloting a rebuilding team. But…I don’t expect him to make it easy for the Saints to move on either

He’d be a fool not to. As you said we will be rebuilding, retooling, whatever you want to call it. He’s got limited time left, why in the world would he want to stay here?

Not a ton. It works out pretty close in dead money this year, but clears it for next year.

If Carr STAYS and nothing is modified, his current cap number for us includes $30 mil base salary, $10 mil roster bonus and $11,458,000 in this years portion of his prorated bonus. For a total of $51,458,000 cap hit.

If he was CUT before March 17th, all of Carr's prorated bonuses would accelerate to 2025 which is $40,132,000. That would be dead cap. We would also be on the hook for his $10 million guaranteed salary. Leaving a dead cap of $50,132,000, but a savings of $1,326,000 against the 2025 cap and leaving nothing remaining for 2026. However, if he were to sign with another team, every dollar he makes would come back to us up to that $10 million because of offset language in his contract.

If he waived his no trade clause and was TRADED, we would still have to eat the entirety of his prorated bonuses, but his roster bonus and guaranteed salary would both move to the new team and the Saints would gain $11,326,000 in 2025 cap space and have the $40,132,000 in dead money.
Thanks

I'd still rather make the playoffs and have the opportunity to make a run at it than not make it at all.

Nah, he'd actually be smart to make the Saints cut him. He's never going to win a Super Bowl, but he can secure himself A LOT more money with one more free agent contract. His current contract is nearly out of guaranteed new money. His cap hits are all from base salary and already paid bonuses. If he gets cut and picked up on a 3-4 year deal with another $60+ in guaranteed money, he'd be much better off.
