No to both of these two rather take Dart in 2nd or 3rd.They need to draft a QB with the first selection, either Shadeur or Cam Ward but having the 3rd pick is going to be interesting if both those guys are off the board.
I'm predicting they try to trade up to number 2 but the browns won't want to budge and if they do, they will be asking for some quality picks in return.
Raiders are another one that may want to move up.
Not a ton. It works out pretty close in dead money this year, but clears it for next year.
If Carr STAYS and nothing is modified, his current cap number for us includes $30 mil base salary, $10 mil roster bonus and $11,458,000 in this years portion of his prorated bonus. For a total of $51,458,000 cap hit.
If he was CUT before March 17th, all of Carr's prorated bonuses would accelerate to 2025 which is $40,132,000. That would be dead cap. We would also be on the hook for his $10 million guaranteed salary. Leaving a dead cap of $50,132,000, but a savings of $1,326,000 against the 2025 cap and leaving nothing remaining for 2026. However, if he were to sign with another team, every dollar he makes would come back to us up to that $10 million because of offset language in his contract.
If he waived his no trade clause and was TRADED, we would still have to eat the entirety of his prorated bonuses, but his roster bonus and guaranteed salary would both move to the new team and the Saints would gain $11,326,000 in 2025 cap space and have the $40,132,000 in dead money.
. Good points. Will you make sure heās aware of this?Nah, he'd actually be smart to make the Saints cut him. He's never going to win a Super Bowl, but he can secure himself A LOT more money with one more free agent contract. His current contract is nearly out of guaranteed new money. His cap hits are all from base salary and already paid bonuses. If he gets cut and picked up on a 3-4 year deal with another $60+ in guaranteed money, he'd be much better off.
Those will be the top 2 taken off the QB board 100%, do I personally think they are worth pick 1 and 2... NO!No to both of these two rather take Dart in 2nd or 3rd.
Have any of you heard this? First Iām hearing about it, havenāt watched yet, the title just popped up on my cell.
Iām not used to Ross being click bait, have followed him for a while now. Heās too sunshine and roses for me but I like him and havenāt noticed him being click bait.
Seriously doubt anything happens but Iād be all for it. Nothing at all against Carr I just donāt think heās the future. No problem with him staying another season either tho.
And I wouldnāt mind that at all. He can drive the tank as well as Rattler or Haener, for sure.Carr will 100% be with the Saints and run MM (assuming he's the choice for HC) system for a year or two.
Build the rest of the team through draft picks and have an established, quality and core group of players that can support a young QB incoming for 2026 or 2027.
Carr is going to be a $40-$50m cap hit no matter what this year, unless his contract is restructured. So, if he moves on for any reason, Saints have $40M new on the dead cap. They're already at $41M I think so Carr would double the 2025 shirtpile. (With impacts from Ram and possibly Taysom on the way also).
If they traded Carr for a 5th, they are basically mortgaging $40M of cap space in dead cap for a 5th round pick. Oy.
I'd rather them keep him and add some to the dead cap only by restructuring him, to free up some cap space in 2025, because they are already in dead cap jail. In 2025, Carr might start, be the backup, or help out in laundry service.
As for Carr to the Giants, sounds like Ross was giving an Instructive hypothetical regarding whether a new coach wants Carr out of the building. I just think that because Daboll got lucky and was retained, I find it hard to believe he would turn to Derek Carr. A slight chance as a bridge if they draft a QB high.
No real cost-benefit to the Saints though other than to the team and fan psyche.

They way it is right now is that you can either pay him his $30m salary, $10m roster bonus and take $11m of his prorated bonus this year and have a $50m cap hit OR you can cut him and still have a $50 cap hit because he has $40m in prorated bonuses and $10m in guaranteed salary. If you keep him, it makes it about $12m cheaper to cut next year because you'd be then taking on one year less of prorated bonus in dead cap. Admittedly, we have a bit more room to do so next year. But not if we have to restructure him to get under this year. But if you move him, you take the entire hit right now and would be clear in 2026 which is my preference.
I canāt see anything happening until we get a new coach and seeing how he feels about the situation
There simply isn't a team or situation that can save us from the $40m in prorated bonuses. If he leaves, it goes to the cap as dead money. The best we can do in 2025 is trade him, take the $40m in dead money and thank our lucky stars we got out from under him and got $11 million in cap relief for the year. But that IS this best we can do. That or restructure him and kick that can one more time. That's really it.I think our best hope is to find a trade partner that Carr wants to go to so that he will re-work his deal in a way that allows us to trade him without as bad of a dead cap hit and where he gets a new contract from his new team that pays him more money long term. But, I kind of doubt that team is out there. But let's hope the Giants do it.
Then again, Carr has shown that he will force a team to cut him or pay him so he may not be willing to go anywhere. Not that I blame him. We didn't have to offer him the contract that we did.

In other sports teams give picks to offload bad contracts, is that not able to be done in the NFL? Nah, the cap system in the NFL is much more rigid. In the NBA, they do that with high salaried players to teams with enough space to absorb it, but in the NFL prorated bonuses are non transferable. It's money that has already been paid in cash to the players. In other sports teams give picks to offload bad contracts, is that not able to be done in the NFL?
