Ryan Nielsen now STAYING with Saints. Not going to LSU (1 Viewer)

Dennis Allen is likely headed to the Eagles. We need someone who can potentially be the next DC.

I think that's a bit premature.

I've seen that he has an interview, but they've interviewed 9 other guys so far, with 7 of them still available (if I counted correctly) to accept the job if offered.
The Eagles love to copy us.

ESPN reported that Neilsen got an extension and a promotion from the Saints. He is now the Asst Head Coach and DL coach, replacing Dan Campbell as the new AHC

My thinking exactly. He could be our next DC.

Mike Nolan is available, but I'm holding out that DA sticks around for one more year. That will give the Vikings enough time to get rid of Zimmer, who can join the Saints as DC in 2022.

I'm not sure how LSU didn't know what was in his contract. I would think they would find that out before talking to somebody

As far as LSU next season, the Title IX investigation results are coming out like in February. Until that comes out, I wouldn't want to take a coaching job at LSU. Not sure who's gonna be there until that smoke clears....

Contract issue.

Personally, it's kind of a dick move to not let him out of his deal to go.

And a little worrisome as to how he'll be able to operate in that situation. If he feels he's been stifled, just how motivated is he going to be to do his job? It's only human to feel slighted and have that in one's mind in any interaction with your head coach and front office. I hope that isn't the case.

Lol

Assistant head coach of an NFL team or Ed Orgerons defensive coordinator at LSU? Not really a tough call there, Tiger fans.
Exactly! I highly doubt, the Saints would not allow any coach to seek out a better opportunity. The fact he got a NFL coaching promotion, is why he did not leave. But LSU faithful, would like to believe the Saints hosed them. The drama. PLEASE!

The retention/promotion of Neilsen speaks to how much the Saints value him and see a bright future for him. Iā€™ve read that he is a very highly thought of coach, and the Saints believe he will be a head coach in the future.

All I know for sure is that he has gotten the most of out of Onyemata, Hendrickson, Roach/Tuttle, Brown, and even Cam Jordan... Davenport and Rankins flashed but they seem banged up too often.

That wasn't happening until they thought they would lose him to LSU. They had to offer something to make sure there was no animosity in the relationship.
