Saints Cap Moves: McCoy/Carr restructures , Williams released; cap space is at -$8,543,537 (237 Viewers)

Last year, the Saints didn't ask Carr to take a paycut. They restructured and were happy to pay him at that rate. This year, after their 2nd season w/ him, were unwilling to pay him at that price and approached about a paycut.
Can you provide a link to a source that someone on the Saints staff said they wanted Carr to take a paycut.

All I ever saw were people speculating about how the Saints were going to ask him to take a paycut or that they should ask him to take a pay cut.

Loomis said Carr was staying and they had to work out his contract. People assumed that meant the Saints were asking him to take a paycut.

There are a lot of possible things that could have been worked out on his contract that aren't paycuts.

Like I said in my now deleted thread. The fanbase is disenchanted w/ Carr and Carr the fanbase. He’s here because he’s being paid, that’s always been clear and was made more clear by him declining to take a paycuy.

He hasn’t embraced the city and the city will continue to not embrace him. Winning will make him tolerable but it won’t make him more liked

Peter Finney once called Mike Ditka a “visitor to New Orleans.” That feels like it fits here. At least for now. Carr might not even be interested in connecting with the fan base at this point. He might just be here to play football and get stats and try to win games. If he connects with his teammates and his coaches, and that leads to better production, that’s ultimately all that matters.

Feels so weird man. It kind of sucks that there was a few weeks of hope and excitement, that we're finally turning to a new chapter. But ultimately we're just doing the same stuff that we've been doing. It's just odd. There's just nothing exciting about this, whatsoever.

So called "sports reporters" act a lot more like influencers these days than they do actual reporters. They are all more heavily invested in coming across as experts and telling people what they should think. They all get really testy when teams, coaches and players don't do what they've spent a lot of time preaching that they should do.

I think it's because it undermines their credibility and if they lose that, then they lose their job. That's a lot of stress to be under, so I get why they get so upset and lash out at people who don't do what they've been telling everyone that those people should do.

We want them to take sides snd express their opinion. Otherwise there’s no point. Just get a computer to report facts.

I know. But it was always false hope. Loomis didn't fire DA. DA was only fired because Gayle did it. Now he's doubling down on everything we were doing with the exception of what Gayle forced on him. Loomis believes what he believes and he's showing us that he's serious. It's just that most people that follow the team and cover the team disagree. I've never been big on the whole "fire Loomis" thing, but his retirement or firing him is the only thing that's going to change anything.

I don't think keeping Carr stops them from moving on in a year, I don't think it does anything but help them w/ their very obvious goal of trying to win the division. Nothing more nothing less.

In essence they are doing something different. They're hoping that this coaching staff can win w/ a roster they believe is talented enough to win with (and I don't disagree w/that) and squeeze the juice out of the available fruit that the other staff couldn't seem to maximize.

It's also their only option too.

They should have done it after the players ignored Allen to get Williams that TD. That was a sign to move on then, but they didn't...and well if they had we wouldn't have gotten Kellen this year so I'm happy w/ how it ultimately turned out.

I was never fooled.

What you quoted doesn't say anything about someone at the Saints were asking Carr to take a paycut.

The link is to an article by Triplett or Underhill that's behind a paywall.

I don't have a subscription, so please quote the part of the article that says someone in the Saints organization told them that the Saints were asking Carr to take a paycut. Thank you in advance for providing the quote.

I don't think firing Loomis is the only thing that's going to change it. The only two reasons you continue being competitive and not tanking as fans want is.

#1 You're tied to a veteran roster and it would be extremely disrespectful to tell them you're going to waste a year of their limited career to lose.

#2 Our division is trash. When Drew has be interviewed he's pointed it out and it's obvious there's no 2017-2020 or 2006-2011 Saints team in it. So because it's not say, the AFC West...staying competitive is the absolute right thing to do.

Ok sir.

I'm just going to be honest w/ you. You go out of your way to cross reference anything I Say. Then because it's clear you're opinion is already set I refuse to be some type of donkey and go and pull data that you're only going to shoot down.

Stop talking to me, I do not like you.
