Saints expected to be very interested in former Packers/Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy [McCarthy will interview early next week] (171 Viewers)

McCarthy alienated his way out of Green Bay, and he did little with Dallas' talent when it mattered. He's a retread. He won a Super Bowl with a generational QB after we did, which was a long time ago. Dak's ceiling with McCarthy is set in stone which is probably why they have to move on from McCarthy in Dallas. If Mickey rescues this guy like he rescued Derek out of Vegas, the Mickey brainrot is worse than currently assessed. If he falls for McCarthy's availability without waiting for playoff assistants to free up, then God help us all.
He coached Joe Montana, Aaron Rodgers, Brett Farve, and during his time with the Saints with Aaron Brookes. They never had an Offense ranked out of the top ten. I think we all can agree, He has pulled way more out of Dak than anyone ever expected. He is a good coach.

I could not think of a less exciting pick than McCarthy. I'm surprised people here are so gung ho for him. Seems to be a high floor low ceiling coach. The derek carr of coaches if you will.
During his 17 seasons as a head coach in the NFL, McCarthy has an overall regular season record of 169–104–2.[1] He is among only five head coaches (Tom Landry, Chuck Noll, Andy Reid, and Bill Belichick) to lead one franchise to eight straight playoff appearances. McCarthy is second to Curly Lambeau in all-time wins leading the Packers.[2]

Derek Carr comparison? Luaghable.

My only question would be can he bring his offenses scheme up to the 21st century everybody that talk about the Dallas offense this season was that it was stale and outdated. The same words I heard on this forum in Payton’s last years and with Pete
Yeah. He had Rico Dowdle and Zeke. CeeDee Lamb and Dak broke records last year. He wanted King Henry. Jerry said no. His other recievers are Cooks and tolbert. Cee Dee Lamb played with a backup QB, and a sprained AC Joint. They won seven games. I care about culture, and wins. You want a great offense with bad planning. Go look at how the Bengals are wasting Burrow. Could you imagine McCarthy with that team. We know he would not waste all that talent with Sweet Lou coaching the Defense. The man is a winner.

At this point McCarthy seems like a slam dunk for more than one reason, but none bigger than this.

-Also granted you don't have to worry about can he transition from OC to HC.
-On the flip side McCarthy can be very conservative at meh times, and Loomis does need someoen a bit more aggressive (in the Payton mold)

The last time we jumped on a good ole boy late fire from Dallas it was a disaster wish DC Ryan. No thank you on a knee jerk hire.
Payton spent three seasons (2003-05) as the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach with the Dallas Cowboys under Pro Football Hall of Fame Head Coach Bill Parcells.- this isnt a knee jerk hire, its called luck.

Well you can designate him as a June 1 cut. If you keep him. You know you are on the hook for 40 Million Dollars next year. If you cut him this year. You save 5 million off the cap, and you owe him nothing. You probably trade Tyrann and push that money down the road, The same with Taysom. Unless he agrees to a paycut. The same for Cam. Then you cut Cedrick Wilson, and Jamal Williams. You are under. You are going to suck this year. Draft young talent. Let your Coach pick his QB. Get a high draft pick, and draft Arch next year. Please do not tell me that you think we should pay Derek Carr 70 million Dollars for two years? That is what is sounds like you are suggesting.
Arch? What has Arch done? He hasn’t even unseated Ewers in two years. Let’s see what he can do over the course of at least a couple of seasons before drafting him on name alone.

The best way to get out of salary cap hell is for Carr to stay on one more season, no extensions or anything and cut him after next season. Cutting him now makes very little difference.

And sure, Carr has his flaws, but he's the best option we have unless Rattler makes a huge improvement this offseason.

McCarthy isn't bringing Rush here. Certainly not for peanuts. And how are you gonna pay him? You aren't gonna have the cap space to sign him if you cut Carr.
It certainly does make a difference cutting Carr this year vs. next year. Cut him this year and we save $1.3 million in cap this year and his dead $ cap hit will be gone next season. Keep him this year and his cap hit is $51 million in 2025 and then $28.6 in dead money in 2026. Being that they would also likely restructure him in 2025 if he stays that would just increase the dead money in 2026 as well.

Yes, pork skins.

Good job though auditioning as Mike's publicist.

Mike's a meh retread coach that Mickey would be rescuing. Mickey's claim to fame is the cojones he had bringing in Payton. Is Mickey willing to take a hiring risk where's he accountable?

Not if he hires old Couch Potato Daddy. With Dennis being kicked off the ship by the owner, Mickey needs a new bud.
So, if I understand you correctly, you want a hot, fit guy to be coach? A guy who excites you to look at and who intrigues you with his firey personality and devil-may-care attitude?

He had many key fourth down. Hell if you like Ewers. He maybe transferring for four million Dollars in NIL money. Draft him instead. Do you think we should pay Carr 70 million Dollars for two years? He said he won't take a pay cut? What would be your plan? What move by the Saints would you be the most excited for? 2026 You have Arch, You Have Sellers, You have Lamaleauva, and Maybe Nussmeier.

Aaron Glenn, is that you?

What a short memory some of you have. Do y’all not remember when he was our OC in the Haslett regime? If so you remember the complete collapse of Aaron Brooks and the year that McCarthy refused to bench Brooks when all we needed was to win 1 game of our final 3 but McCarthy and his arrogance would not put Jake Delhomme in or start any of those games. When we got to the final game of the season it was the last chance and he still would not start or put Delhomme in the game. Before anybody says “well obviously he wasn’t ready” the very next year Delhomme takes Carolina to the Superbowl!! You really want someone who made these kind of decision mistakes to be our HC? No way!

Do you not remember Sean Payton being fired from his OC job in New York? Just maybe, he might have learned a thing or two since then. His teams have been in the playoffs more often than not. I would take that.

Yeah I feel that, too. I’m down for the Saints come hell or high water, but Mike McCarthy doesn’t excite me at all. He has to win 12 games a year just to keep the fans from falling a

How do we know that was his decision? Our Offense during them was never lower ranked that tenth in the NFL. You have to admit that he deserves soem credit for the development of Delhomme. Bro, You are talking about twenty years ago. He has coached Montana, Farve, Aaron Rodgers, and won a Superbowl since then. Come on man. That is your argument.
