Saints expected to be very interested in former Packers/Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy [Rapoport: Interview to be early next week] (119 Viewers)

That would be incorrect. The incident on Bourbon being the most recent and prominent example. The state of the roads, the mayor, education and on and on. Even compared to Jefferson Parish it's sheet show. I spent 20 years living in other cities in Cali, Nevada and New Mexico. The only place that comes close was Tucson.

I was a born and raised New Orleans and I love the city but I can see it for what it is and it makes me sad. New Orleans is my home and my whole family lives in this area.
I have lived in Central Florida (Military) South Florida, Central Texas, Houston Area, Southern California, & NY City & Montana most of them because of working for the FAA...
No matter were you live there are always good areas & bad areas...
& how in the world the recent incident on Bourbon street indicative of NOLA being a 3rd World City?

It was a horrible incident perpetuated by an individual not even from NOLA...

I was born in NOLA & raised in Jefferson Parish it is ridiculous how people from outside of New Orleans always bad mouth it.
It is one of the reasons our state has stagnated so badly since the 1960's. All the other states that I have lived in all have tried to help their major cities grow...
EXCEPT LOUISIANA!

Ask yourself why is that???

I'm not, but I would rather gamble on the next great young (I use young loosely) than go with a guy who knows where the ceiling is. At this point, I basically expect Mick to go with a safe route because he's too old to roll the dice on an unknown. Payton was an unknown and turned out to be the greatest coach in Saints history; that's the direction I would rather go because these next couple of years will not be ideal in terms of the cap or talent. McCarthy is like Marty Schotehemier with a ring. He doesn't have losing seasons, but the probability of winning it all again is virtually zero. It's like no one on the board wants to be the best anymore; we want to be mid-tier. There was time when we had a top 5 coach and QB and now we just want to get by. Sad. if we fail with a first-time coach, so what at least we'll have a high draft pick.
McCarthy’s perceived ceiling is what we’re hoping a young first-time coach can become. In his case, knowing his ceiling isn’t a bad thing. We know that there’s a chance he can advance multiple rounds in the playoffs, and contend for a SB with the right luck in health and good QB play. He has the overall and recent resume that validates that sentiment. He’s a contending coach that any team would want to have when there’s an opening.

On the other hand, gambling on an unknown to become a playoff contending coach doesn’t sound like a better option than a coach who’s proven to already be that. For the Saints who are trying to return to double digit winning seasons again. It may be a process of 2-3 seasons to get to that point with a coach who’s figuring out how to be a successful HC for the first time.

I think this can be a case of talking ourselves out of a blatantly good coach because of opinions of Loomis. Since McCarthy previously worked with Loomis, he must be bad or somehow a replicate of Allen by default. But McCarthy established himself as one of the NFL’s top HCs across 2 decades since leaving the Saints in ‘05.

The incident on Bourbon was random and could happen in any major city with a "soft target." I have a critique of my hometown and state, but it's mainly economic. The reality is that most deep southern states have terrible economies, and most of my friends from college either left after graduation in the nineties or Katrina. Most of them live in either Houston, Dallas, or Atlanta. I love NOLA in a romantic sense, but the economic opportunities and public educational system cannot compete with most major metro areas. Finally, unless you've been to a developing country (using the term third world is viewed as offensive), you know there is no comparison.

Arch? What has Arch done? He hasn’t even unseated Ewers in two years. Let’s see what he can do over the course of at least a couple of seasons before drafting him on name alone.
Might want to check Arch’s status after today( Ewers just put in for the NFL draft) It’s Arch’s team now. But your right it’s time to show me.

As always. However, I was against the deer on day one; some decisions scream disaster. He was a losing coach, and we gave him a chance anyway.
Same. I never gave him the benefit of the doubt. Granted I live 10-15 miles from Oakland so I knew what we were getting more than a lot of people. Same with Carr. I've seen him play more games than any QB currently in the NFL due to proximity and friends that are Raider fans.

mccarthy is the same age as payton, has more championship appearances, same amount of super bowls, i think more playoff wins and appearances. totally diff coaching styles, but hes had some good offenses under him calling the shots..

Arch will enter 2025 as the presumed starter and have three years of eligibility. He played a little in 2023 so he could keep his redshirt.

He started a handful of games this past year when Ewers was injured. I promise you there are a ton of Texas fans, me included, that wanted Sark to play Arch more because Ewers disappeared for stretches of games with low energy, and he lacks mobility. Everyone saw that. But thank God Ewers pulled the Arizona State win out of his backbottom.

Sark was loyal to Ewers regardless and that's understandable because Ewers ended Texas' many years of mediocrity on the field and in recruiting.

Ewers has arm talent but lacks mobility, and has lacked accuracy on the deep balls. I think he's dropped a couple rounds in the draft. Do not want for the Saints. Now Arch in 27' or 28'? Absolutely, but so may everybody.

I think the decision will be based on the contract. Some coaches are gonna demand total control and tons of money and others will be happy to get an opportunity.

Where are you getting this stuff? McCarthy left the Saints the year before Haslet was fired and was replaced by Mike Sheppard. If McCarthy was Haslett's boy he sure had an odd way of showing it.

He didn't get rid of him for three years because he was running a very good offense. In 2002 the Saints led the NFC in scoring, with 49 touchdowns and 432 points. In 2003, the Saints scored 340 points—their eighth highest-scoring season ever. All of McCarthy's four years with the Saints rank in the team's top 10 years for offense at the time.

So maybe you didn't do your homework?

Total mic-drop here...mouths got shut in a hurry. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Keep believing that! If yall think that Haslett actually told McCarthy to not put Delhomme in your crazy! If McCarthy would have told Haslett that he wanted to start Delhomme then Haslett would not have went against him. That quote is just a HC taking the heat for his OC that’s all.

Noooooooooooo ….

I watched him here in Dallas for 5 years. He isn’t the worst, and he was strapped by Jerry Jones, but still, it would be quite boring to watch his gamelan again. Especially since we already watched his game run its course as OC here already.
