Saints head coach Kellen Moore introductory press conference, media updates, February 13, 2025 (61 Viewers)

No, he's being honest.

It would be irresponsible and dishonest to say he knows what they're going to do. Because it would be irresponsible to have made that decision already when he's barely off the plane. Guys are asking questions that he's obviously not going to know the answer to, and if he DID know the answer, it would be very premature.
Carr almost whipped his butt crevasse in the dome 5 months ago. It was probably their tightest game of the season. I’m sure he has a ton of respect for Carr.

Tripp asked the point blank question if he viewed it as the Saints having a decision to make at quarterback, or do you view Derek Carr as our starting quarterback, and he was non-committal. Called him a tremendous starting quarterback in this league.
That's just a part of what Moore said as well.

I just listened to the whole press conference for a second time. This is the complete flow of questions about Carr and Moore's answer. It's not the entire transcript, but it's an accurate summary.

Q: What he thought about Carr when viewing his tape and do you view him as the week 1 starter for the Saints with Moore as head coach?
Moore: Carr is a tremendous QB in this league. He's a starter in this league. He's a premiere player in this league. I'm real excited to team up with him and go through the process... (he went on to say he looks forward to going through that process with all of the players).

Several minutes later Triplet asked:

Q: Follow up on Derek, do you view that as having a decision to make at QB or do you view it as Derek Carr is the QB?
Moore: I view it as Derek Carr is a tremendous starting QB in this league. We're fortunate to have him and we're excited to go through this process, you know, as we build this roster together. Again, I meeting these guys for the first time in the last few days. We're excited to meet more of them and this will be a lot of fun.

I don't see anything at all "damning" that Moore said about Carr. One of the things I like about Moore is he seems more like a collaborator than a dictator. Even if Moore was deadset on Carr being the starter, I don't think he's going to say that in a press conference before he's actually had a chance to discuss it with Carr, because he knows Carr has a say in the matter. I think it's pretty clear that he would comfortable and confident in having Carr as his starter.

So that's the full context of the questions and answers about Carr that Underhill left out of his tweet that you quoted.

No, you're under analyzing all of this and debating with people that are posting real information with junk you copied and pasted from google and didn't even bother to check to see if it was accurate.
Does your analysis of Carr's contract come from you reading the entirety of the compensation clauses in his contract for yourself? Or is it based on what some self-proclaimed internet cap "expert's" analysis of Carr's contract?

He said a lot of nice things about Carr. Rightfully so. But he was given a point-blank question and an opportunity to say that Carr would be the Saints starting quarterback and he chose not to answer that. Maybe it's for the reasons you mentioned. Or maybe it's because he's unsure about what he wants to do.

In none of my posts regarding this topic, for what it's worth, have I said that he's gone. I just think it's very clear that they're going to explore all options.

He just doesn't fit the teams timeline.
Did you talk to anyone in the Saints front office or Moore about what their timeline is? Maybe the team and Moore don't agree with you on what their timeline is.

Why would it make sense for a young first time HC, inheriting an aging roster that needs to be reset, to commit to an aging QB with no upside?
To be as competitive as possible right now in the immediate future while building toward the long term future. The Saints front office and Moore have all made it very clear they are not sacrificing being competitive now for being competitive in the future.

Both Moore and the Saints are planning on competing for the division title this year. Either Carr or another veteran QB they might bring in will most likely be the starters. It's unlikely that either Haener, Rattler or someone they draft this year will be the starter. It might happen, but it will only happen because the Saints and Moore think they can win as many games with them as they would with Carr or another veteran QB that they bring in.

Does your analysis of Carr's contract come from you reading the entirety of the compensation clauses in his contract for yourself? Or is it based on what some self-proclaimed internet cap "expert's" analysis of Carr's contract?
Is there something you're attempting to refute with your question? Or are you just reverting to a question like this because you have nothing of substance to say in rebuttal?

Of course he knows what he has in Carr. We all know what we get with Carr. Objectively speaking, Carr is not our franchise quarterback. And certainly, Kellen knows that his success will be tied to finding his guy. Trotting Carr out in his first season just honestly gets in the way of that. Carr probably makes a lot of sense for a few teams in this league. We're not one of them.

Philly played the Saints when they were relatively healthy and only won by 3 points. I think that Moore sees the Saints as a team that can compete this year, and for more than just the division title. But the Saints also came close to beating Washington with Rattler at QB, so who knows. I think you can make a case for either. But Carr gives you a better chance now. And I don't think that Rattler is a generational player that you couldn't find later in the draft if he wants to try to compete now.

Probably the part where when asked if Derek Carr would be our starting quarterback about 10 minutes later, Kellen chose not to answer that question.
First of all, both questions about Carr asked if Carr was the starter. Second, Moore answered both questions and he answered them both the same way.

He said Carr was a tremendous and premiere starting QB both times, but that he hasn't really had a chance to meet with him to go through process of going over everything.

It doesn't tell us he's out, but it doesn't tell us that he's in.
No it doesn't tell us what will happen, but it does tell us that Moore sees Carr as a much better QB than you and everyone else insisting that Carr has to be cut this year. Moore has a much higher opinion of Carr as a QB than you and the others insisting that he has to be cut this year.

He's going to make a decision. Mickey even said in his presser after the season that the new coach would decide on our quarterback situation. It is just simply not a lock that Derek will be here in 2025.
Who has said it was? What I've seen people say is that Moore thinks highly of Carr and didn't say anything "damning" about him as a QB or as a potential starter. I haven't seen anyone say "Carr is a lock to be here in 2025."

He said a lot of nice things about Carr. Rightfully so. But he was given a point-blank question and an opportunity to say that Carr would be the Saints starting quarterback and he chose not to answer that.
Dude, did you listen to the press conference yourself? It doesn't sound like you did.

Moore was asked only two questions about Carr during the entire press conference. Both questions, and I repeat, both questions, clearly asked Moore if Carr would be his starter.

Both times, and I repeat, both times Moore answered the question honestly. His answer both times was that he thinks Carr is a tremendous starter and a premier QB, but he hasn't really had a chance to go through the process of meeting with Carr or any other player, but he's very excited and looking forward to going through the process with Carr and with the other players.

Triplet was the one that asked Moore the same question for the second time. He was basically laughing at Triplet for asking him the same question that he had already answered several minutes before. Moore answered both questions, you either didn't hear Moore's answer for yourself or you just don't want to hear it.

At this point, it really seems like the only thing that will keep Carr from being the starter is if Carr doesn't want to stick around and/or Loomis and Carr's agent can't reach an agreement on how to adjust Carr's contract. I think if Carr wants to be starting for the Saints next year, he will be.

In none of my posts regarding this topic, for what it's worth, have I said that he's gone. I just think it's very clear that they're going to explore all options.
I haven't seen anyone say anything that would disagree with that. Please keep that in mind if Carr ends up being the starter, because it means Moore explored all the options and he felt Carr was the best option.

I have enjoyed visiting this site for many years. It's people like you Elvis that has made visiting unenjoyable.... I mean you are always picking fights and continuing arguments. Please leave the building.

Is there something you're attempting to refute with your question?
Nope. I'm just asking you question to find out if you have analyzed the contracts for yourself or if you're getting your analysis of the contract from someone else on the internet. It's a straightforward question and giving a straightforward answer shouldn't be a big deal.

I'll ask again. Have you read the contracts for yourself? If you haven't, who are you getting your contract information from and what do you know about their background and experience with interpreting contracts and the cap ramifications?

Of course, you don't have to answer. I'm just asking, because I'd like to know.

Or are you just reverting to a question like this because you have nothing of substance to say in rebuttal?
I'm asking a question. I'm not rebutting anything. Seems like you're avoiding the answering the question. That usually only happens because someone's uncomfortable with answering the question.

I'm truly sorry you feel that way. I try to only post things that are my opinions or facts and that they are easy to spot as such. The fights that you citing are more times than not responses to people that want to shout down other peoples opinions or don't care about the facts. I have had many of them on ignore at different times to prevent such arguments. Yet they continue to reply to my posts often and I feel it necessary to respond.

Again, truly sorry if I make your experience a negative one. Please put me on your ignore list, I will not be offended.

Then I have no interest in your comment. If you think my information is incorrect, then correct me. But the silly "were you in the room", "do you have the contract" stuff isn't going to work on me. Back on ignore you go.

I watched the entire presser real time, and I'm not the only one who interpreted it that way. He was asked if Derek Carr would be the Saints starting quarterback, and he chose a non-commital answer. You can interpret it the way that you want. Complementing his career and calling him a tremendous starting quarterback in this league isn't the same thing as putting any sort of speculation to rest and saying that Derek will be the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.

It was non-commital. Open for interpretation. Allowing fans and the like to speculate. A handful think it doesn't bode well for Carr's future with this team, and a handful think it's a non-issue and that he'll be the starter. That's not really up for debate, as there are a lot of wavering opinions on this matter, and that wouldn't be the case if he had answered it in a way that puts it to bed.
