Saints players and other key sports and public figures are angry at Drew Brees for his anthem comments (1 Viewer)

Drew has always been a man of conviction. He's always spoken out about what he believes -- having said that, this would have been a perfect time to dodge a question or take a broader stroke with his answer. It seemed very tone deaf in light of what is happening in America right now and I worry that Drew just lit a powder keg in his own locker room.

No he doesn’t. Drew made his thoughts on the matter crystal clear. What you and the Leftists of this country need to do is let others express their differing opinions than those you hold without fear of retaliation.
I’m brown. I don’t have the luxury of being who I am without fear of retaliation, much less expressing my opinions.

people get rewarded equaly for equal performance regardless of race, gender, age or identity
people receive the same consequences for 'anti-social' behavior regardless of race, gender, age or identity
Starting when, today? Man, that 400 year head start might come in handy for some folks. Read about Redlining and get back to me. Seriously, look up redlining.

Isn’t brees son in the hospital with a serious infection? Maybe he’s just a little distracted right now. I don’t know.
Also, how about his teammates take the time to educate him personally on the matter instead of blasting him on social media. I feel like this would probably be a better route to take.

This is a great way to have the entire team turn their back on you and tarnish your reputation on your way out. What a sad, stupid position to take.

Why is it one side can have their thoughts on one thing but the other doesn’t have the same ability to have their own thoughts on something.

there are other ways to protest the racial divide without taking a knee during the Anthem. Drew showed this a few years back when the whole team was on the sideline holding hands to protest.

the real issue becomes that a large part of the population agrees that taking a knee during the Anthem is disrespectful but the other side will not allow themself to see that side of issue only the part that is if your not with me your against me.

and one Green Beret wearing soldier can never give Kap the correct answer to the kneeling issue. His answer could be wrong or he may only be speaking on how he would feel for the kneeling but he could never speak for every soldier that serves or ever served for our military.

the real issue is bad cops, period! I have had bad experiences with them myself where they have lied through their teeth under oath. There’s a lot of them out there.

racism works both ways though. If everyone simply respected people for being human beings the world would be a much better place.

one thing is for sure, you cannot get respect by demanding it. It is like trust it needs to be earned Through people’s actions towards others.
I sure hope god can help heal these wounds and allow us to move forwards in a better direction.

I love what Drew has done for this team, but I've known for a while that some of his beliefs don't align with my own. I'm not going to tell him to "shut up and just play football" - he has a right to his views and his platform - but it helps shape my overall view of him, as a person. I don't dislike him, I think he demonstrates some other really strong qualities, but he does remind me that how we perceive people is often complicated and requires grace.

When his days of playing are over here, I doubt I'll pay much attention to him.

I haven't had the interest to read through this whole thread, because with everything else going on, adding layers of new controversy isn't exactly appealing (but I get the interest and the concern). Anyway, it's probably come up, maybe he even addressed it, but I heard yesterday, apparently sourced directly from his wife via social media, that one of their boys is facing a serious health problem. Offered, fwiw.

Part of me wants Drew to retire becuase the world don't deserve Drew Brees. Between this and the Bible issue last year, they looking for any excuse to burn this man. He kneeled and locked arms for social injustice.....just not during the anthem. Its what he believes in. You would think these other athletes would understand defending what you believe in....but I guess when it doesn't fit thier narrative....
