Saints players and other key sports and public figures are angry at Drew Brees for his anthem comments (2 Viewers)

How about everybody stands for the National Anthem and there is a 8:46 minutes/seconds of silence before every NFL game played from this point forward. Those wanting to kneel should do so during the 8:46 minutes/seconds of silence.
Doesn't have to be silence, but I think a period of solidarity before games would be a great step forward for sports.

Starting when, today? Man, that 400 year head start might come in handy for some folks. Read about Redlining and get back to me. Seriously, look up redlining.
I think you’re misreading me
I’ve posted about redlining at least 20 times on this board
As well as school to prison pipeline
That the 13th amendment still allows slavery
About the absurd imbalance in HUD loans
The ‘war’ on drugs
etc
etc
etc

Negative how about blacks get social justice and reparations for slavery..... Now that's a step forward.

I won't be shocked if that NBC contract he signed for post-retirement suddenly goes away. He made a terrible decision for the current climate of things.
Had this exact same thought. NBC does have the luxury of time at the moment. I do wonder if an ESPN talking head will bring it up soonas a jab at a rival network, though.

So tell me how to address the power imbalance?
Easy. Start with ending the qualified immunity for police and rogue prosecutors. Weaken the unions that protect terrible cops.

That, by itself, would go a long way towards ending the power imbalance.

But we don't want to figure out solutions. Police brutality is not the problem - it is a symptom of the problem.

Hey remember when football was about football? Actually neither do I.

One of the things that ticks me off about this whole thing is that Brees was asked about this in the first place. The media wanting to drag the current issues into everything to sell clicks (and look at that - it worked).

He was outspoken about this back then -- so it was relevant to ask if his stance had changed in light of the current events in Minneapolis and the resulting protests and unrest across the country. Sadly, Drew decided to reaffirm his position. Let's be clear -- it's his right to feel that way and his right to speak his beliefs. However, that doesn't make him free from judgement and as a leader of a team in a sport that is overwhelmingly African-American, his comments ring ignorant and completely tone deaf to the current climate of America.

ok and so that doesn’t mean only
It doesn't. But population numbers alone, all things equal, 16% of the population are not going to effect any change if the 65% of the population don't care about changing.

so when someone says the whites won’t listen is also racism because it’s not about white or black it’s about right or wrong
It is about right and wrong... and denying there is a problem isn't necessarily racism, it could be apathy, ignorance, tone deafness...

i got in trouble watching this due to my laughter
First off, why is Jenkins running to facebook to get attention? Why is he not calling Drew? Secondly, he is twisting Drew's comments. Drew said they HE would never agree with disrespecting the flag. He did not say (as Jenkins claims) that all other should feel that way. He also tells Drew he should shut up. Why doesn't he call Drew to tell him that instead of his facebook followers?

#BlackLivesMatter :ROFLMAO:

This proves my point on the other thread, again. Black lives matter, obviously, but people need to stop acting like they're the only ones that do. How is anyone supposed to talk maturely when every black keyboard warrior is calling ANY white person who even slightly disagrees with their self-proclaimed movement 'white trash', 'racist', and a laundry list of other things.

Also, Malcom Jenkins is an idiot. He's talking about the world being on fire as if white people are doing it and that Drew has any way of stopping it. This is literally black people destroying their communities just like they did 'for' Rodney King thirty years ago, but yeah, Jenkins ain't gonna mention that. It doesn't stand behind his point so it's irrelevant.

These 'celebrities' should be ashamed of themselves. They have no say in ANY argument when they're getting comfy on their hundred thousand dollar couch.

Edit: Bring on the clowns, because it's all I've been getting. People have a hard time accepting the truth, I guess.

Unfortunately, apologies mean nothing once something you say is deemed racially or culturally insensitive.

Payton has a big problem on his hands. This will continue to fester and just devolve. Brees has probably never experienced the poop storm he's enduring now and will continue to endure. He's going to lose endorsement deals, maybe his NBC deal, his public image will suffer greatly in New Orleans and Nationally. He's never dealt with something like this. Again, what he said wasn't inconsistent with his views -- it just wasn't the right time to double-down on Patriotism when so many are feeling like their own country wants them dead or forgotten.
