Glad it's just 1 year very talented but is known to slack if he plays very hard and to his potential could see a long term deal with him.

So far from what I’ve read, I’m only seeing that narrative amongst fans. I’m not saying it isn’t true, because I’ve already said what I thought. But further to that, the coaches, knowing his injury situation, may have told him not to go bonkers at the end of plays, for all fans know.

Void years are typically how Mickey does things but since we have the cap this year and haven’t been pushing stuff to next year this offseason, I think we might just take the whole hit this year. Especially since OTC has us listed as only 50m over next year and we can get under with just a few moves. We are listed as already under by nearly 100m for 2026. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Nah, I think he still uses void years. . Not sure he wants to use most of cap room on the contract.

I don't hate it, I just find it funny that anyone takes above seriously......

Hopefully Chase will be motivated by the $$$$'s he could potentially command after a good season....we will see.....

I see people are taking issue with his 13M/1 yr fully guaranteed deal.

“Guaranteed” - Young is a vested veteran so his salary would guarantee in Week 1 if on the roster any way. If he can’t pass a physical, the Saints could likely release him at no cost.

“1 yr” - This is no lose for us. He shows low effort/production and we part ways. He balls and we resign or get a comp pick. I think we bought pass rush in 2024 and 4th/5th round comp pick for 2025.

And I would have to think that if he does ball out this year, we would have a better chance than most at getting him to sign a longer deal given that we gave him a chance and he would know he fits the scheme. That is unless DA is gone, but if Young balls out, I can't see this team being bad enough to get DA fired.

That being said, if they can't get a pass rush this year from Young, or some of the other guys, DA is likely in trouble. He managed to have a solid D with smoke a mirrors for a pass rush last year, but I'm not sure NFL teams won't have figured that out this year.

For the record, I don't take it particularly seriously. Players say that about coaches. It's in their DNA. But, I do think it shows that the perspective of DA among NFL players may not fit the narrative around here about him being two soft on players and being a "beta male." Certainly some guys, like MT, have issues with DA, but I think a lot of that comes from not winning. Winning solves everything as far as culture and accountability.

Why wouldn't anyone take that seriously. Shouldn't the way to interpret what he says is genuine until we know it's not?

And I think at least part of why he's saying this is because of what Cam and others are saying to him about Allen.

Fans hate DA as a head coach and that has irrationally spilled over into hating him as a DC.

Allen is one of the better DCs in the league. What he did last year with almost no pass rush while missing his #1 corner and starting safety much of the season is impressive. He is one of the few DCs in the league who can take subpar/inexperienced/injured talent and scheme his way to the 8th-ranked scoring defense.

He may not be a good HC (hopefully that changes), but he can coach defense, and Young knows that.

There’s a lot not to like about this signing. The only positive is that it fills a need; New Orleans wanted an edge rusher in the 2023 NFL Draft, but the prospect it wanted, Myles Murphy, was plucked off the board one pick earlier. Adding Chase Young finally addresses that need.

However, there are so many negatives. First of all, the Saints continue to spin their wheels into mediocre oblivion. Acquiring Young will make them better, but not nearly good enough to win a playoff game. New Orleans should be tanking, if anything. Second, Young isn’t as good as he was billed to be coming out of college. He’s had some bright moments, but he’s been a disappointment overall. And third, this is way too much money for such an overrated player. Young probably deserved about half as much.

Speaking of money, the $13 million is fully guaranteed, so the Saints won’t be able to roll anything over into next offseason, further hindering their cap situation. A team on the verge of a Super Bowl could have made this move without nearly as much criticism, but a mediocre team like he Saints has no business doing something like this.

I too wish we could have teleported back to 2017 and paid Young half of what we paid him, but it's 2024. Salaries go up and he was paid exactly what players of his caliber are getting.

I don't think AK has said anything like that. He certainly called out the offensive system and play calling, but I don't think he's said anything bad about DA. But, I could have missed it.

And, I don't disagree that he has been a failure as a head coach and I would have let him go two years ago. But, I don't think his failures are about not being a "leader of men." There are lots of ways to lead and clearly DA isn't the Dan Campbell type, but there are many different kinds of leaders. And some leadership is not obvious from the outside. Personally I think DAs failures have more to do with too much loyalty to PC and his failure to get a new OC when he was hired, bad in game management, and an inability to manage difficult players like MT and CJGJ.

I guess my point is that there is no way for any of us to know if DA is a leader and if he is what kind of leader he is. For some, like Dan Campbell, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin, etc. it's obvious. For others you really don't know unless you are inside the team.

I also think DA has fallen victim to our over expectations of the post Brees era. Due to lack of players or injury, we basically had not QB on this team until last year and Carr was bad to average for most of the season until he got it going in the last 5 games. Moreover there is no real pass rush and the OL is mediocre at their best. But, our expectation, built during the Payton/Brees ear, is that no matter the holes on the team, you just overcome them. That's not going to happen if you don't have an elite QB. Still, I think DA should have done a better job than he has done and maybe he would be on the right track had he hired a guy like Kubiak when he was hired for the job.

I have found that Granderson's contract last year was for a avg of $13M per year. Just what Youngs deal for 1 year is worth. That tells me that Loomis views them the same in value.
