Saints signed Kicker Charlie Smyth (re-signed to 2 year deal) (2 Viewers)

While the Taysom Hill talk maybe slightly tongue in cheek, he has the leg and the technique to hit punts, I am 100% certain of that (any decent Gaelic Football player does). Hope he may get an opportunity to train that skill.

We might need this guy. We might be kicking alot of long field goals this year. It's a premonition. 😁

He got the tryout and contract as a kicking specialist. Multi position role is a good alternative if he doesn’t win the Kicker job. He has the athletic background to possibly be a utility guy by coming from GAA. I don’t think he’ll have those roles if he’s relied on to be the Kicker though. Too much contact will put him in a position to blow out his leg or knee whether he’s main or backup Kicker.
Beyond the positions I already mentioned, he is also going to fill the position of director of football theory. Dennis Allen values his fresh concepts since he has only been around the game a few months. Expect the next evolution of football this season from the Saints.

How does he pronounce his last name? I am a Smyth as well and pronounce mine S-My-th.
Sounds more like the Original intention to ‘Smite’ that anvil! Some will argue it needs an E on the end to be legit but truth be told it started out as MacGowan, and I’m sure Smythe was shortened to drop the E, and Smith to be all anglicized….I’m going with Smyth to Smite, to strike something with great force and craftsmanship.

Smyth those kicks for us sir! WhoDat! ‘My male lineage goes back to Scotland and Ireland.’

I like it. There are only 32 of these jobs in the world. If we don't have a great kicker, we should keep trying until we find one.

Hopefully we bring in a young punter as well.

…in front of 70,000 people, knowing millions of people are watching from home and that your entire locker room’s week of work is on the line, and the entire mood of your city and fanbase rests all on you.
Shux, man -- I've never played a down in the NFL, but you got me shaking in my shoes right now.

While I admire your logic, I'm afraid his name is pronounced just the same as the usual 'Smith'.

Why can't we just get football players that have played football at the position they play growing up like a normal team? No more guys from other sports or guys that grew up in Africa and played one year of high school football. No more guys that played WR or QB in college and trying to turn them into TEs.
Exactly! What were we thinking messing around with that basketball player-Jimmy Graham guy anyway???

😉

I wonder if the new kickoff rules had anything to do with this...

That's what I'm wondering. Both for his kicking and maybe he's a better tackler than most kickers. I think with these new rules kickers are going to have to make more tackles.
