Gonna have to excuse me and agree to disagree. A lot of people said the same thing about Sean Payton, and would happily trade away Penning and Olave to have him back now.

Fans get silly at the hope of the idea a draft pick brings. In two years there’s a solid chance we’ll wish we had Latt back instead of whoever we draft with these 3rd and 6th rounders, after the hope wears off and reality sets in.
More ridiculousness, 1st Penning and Olave have NOTHING to do with the SP trade. And maybe if you knew this team you'd know that the strongest position on the team is DB with AT , Adebo and KAM. When Lattimore misses his normal 5-8 games a yr from Hammy's and other injuries , PLUS he'll be 30 going into the 26 season and slowing down like all DB do at the age. We could be benefiting from the low cost draft picks and the cap space we got from trading him

Terrible trade, but this team isn't Championship material anyway. Kamara will be gone or done in two seasons, and the Saints will probably be a .500 team then too! This all started when they refused to accept Brees was on the decline and didn't have a plan in place to replace him. Then you pay a QB whose never won a playoff game like he's elite! The Carr was a lemon, what a terrible signing! I will miss Marshon Lattimore!

Washington smoked us in this trade. This has the same to stink to me of trading SP to Denver and people thinking we’ll be great with DA and those draft picks.

Draft picks, not even 1st rounders are worth a player or coach that’s top 5 at their position. Ever.

They are worth that when the player doesn't want to be here anymore, when he's often injured and about to turn 29, and when your team won't likely be contending for the playoffs until that player is 32 or 33. Under those circumstances, you are happy with a top 100 pick and some change in addition to the salary cap space you create to rebuild your team in 2026 or 2027.

Latt is an oft injured older CB. He's not worth the value you think he is. The only way to try out of cap hell and rebuild is through the draft. Picking up another 3rd and 4th is huge. We'll more than likely have high picks of our own, add these picks in and that's an 8 pick draft as of now. A 3rd on a high 2nd can move into the bottom of the first, a fouth on a high 3td can move onto the 2nd. We can add young talent to this young core of a team.

In 3 years, Latt will still be dealing with a Hammy.

Well after the injury and his play this season he'll be a whole lot cheaper. But we do have AT who is better on the outside. And we still have to evaluate KAM. Rico and the rest of our DB's

I think Taylor will be very good on the outside, but I will miss his blitzing and tackling ability in the Slot. He was becoming a great Slot, but in the long run an outside CB is more valuable and you can likely find a Slot CB easier. In fact, Kool-Aid could end up being a Slot.

But having Lattimore for 3 more years wasn't really an option.

This is silly

Yes I would have preferred pick 72 but to act like the return is trash is silly.

Go look at WSHs schedule coming up.
And the thing is Wash has NOT beaten ANY good teams. Their best win was against the Bengals and that was when they were playing bad. Wash will lose a few more games . I see 3-4 more L's for them

I get it, I do. I just don't agree with ever trading a top player at their respective position. The entire point of the draft is to hopefully get someone who will be amongst the best at their position by 2nd contract. And teams miss all the time. Constantly even with top 5 picks.

We eat 31 mill next year in dead money, and now we have to possibly fill that position. Adebo may not sign with us, and may lose a step due to his injury. There are no guarantee's he'll come back as good as he was.

On top of that, with Dennis Allen gone, I won't rule out contending for playoffs next year. Likely? No. Possible? Absolutely. Then throw in our horrendous drafts over the last few years, and suddenly that 3rd and 6th round, eating 31 million, while replacing a top 5 CB with a maybe top 30 at best, doesn't sound so appealing.

I wouldn't even be surprised if Latt stays more healthy then we've seen this season and last. If it was possible to exaggerate an injury, I would do it too under Dennis Allen.

Saints trade Lattimore and pick 144 for 93, 131, and 181.

The Rich Hill Value Chart means: Lattimore and 13pts for 42pts, 18pts, and 8pts. That means Lattimore was worth approximately 55pts or the 81st pick (17th - 3rd round). Pick 72 (8th - 3rd round) is worth 67pts. I think a rebuilding team values more picks. Maybe getting the 3rd and 4th was worth more to the Saints than a higher 3rd. I think a straight Latt for 93 and 131 would have been great. The actual trade feels like good value to each team given their needs.

I scrolled through the last ten years drafts to prove you wrong. And I did see a handful of good 3rd and 4th round picks. But I was also amazed at how many of those names never made a roster. Maybe luck does have something to do with it.
About 16% of 3rd rnd players drafted make a significant impact in the league.
Players in the last 8yrs drafted in the 3rd and after
24, The jury is still out on Rattler , Means , Ford and Boyd
23, Jury still out on Miller, Saldiveri, Haener and Howden.
22, we only had a 5th and 6th D Jackson is a good ST player and has shown some flashes
21, Adebo, when healthy is a very good outside DB, he has had some struggles this yr. Young, and avg backup
20 Baun and Trautman, While not with the team they are staring with different teams and Baun is doing well in Philly.
19, CJGJ is one of the better N,S in the league, not with us but elsewhere. and Elliss is starting in ATL
18, T Smith never really developed , Boston Scott did ok in Philly and Will Clapp started 21 games in Buff.
17, We all know about that draft but our 2rd round picks may be the best 3rd round haul in the last 30yrs. We drafted AK Anzelone and Hendrickson
The funny thing is we did not have many 3rd and 4th rnd picks in the last 8 yrs or so

That's worth it. Our remaining CBs will be kn rookie deals, that makes eating that dead cap a lot easier.
One less position we have to invest in as they are on rookie deals and what we got in the Lattimore trade we should have and be depending on more young players on rookie deals next year as this roster and team is remodified.
