I actually think this is a good deal for both sides. Latt seems like he’s been asking for out since last year at least, we get out of his deal after 2 season, and get some draft capital to start rebuilding. Keep in mind Jalen Ramsey at the same age as Latr was traded for essentially a 3rd round pick. We gave up a 5 and latt for 3, 4 and 6. Good deal all around. Commanders defense gets better instantly.

It's bad next year, but that's the end of the line for the Lattimore cap saga.

$31M in 2025 money.
$0 in 2026 money.

It stinks but this is medicine we need to take.
Absolutely sucks, but no additional voids or anything to worry about years later. After next year cap should open up in a way we haven’t seen in a long time. Fans have to understand we’re going to lose favorites like cam and Demario. Others like ram, Saunders and even Carr have to go as well imo

I think RAM is done and he knows it. I saw a new picture of him. He is small now.

Cam and Demario may ride off into the sunset but their contracts will remain.

Saints trade Lattimore and pick 144 for 93, 131, and 181.

The Rich Hill Value Chart means: Lattimore and 13pts for 42pts, 18pts, and 8pts. That means Lattimore was worth approximately 55pts or the 81st pick (17th - 3rd round). Pick 72 (8th - 3rd round) is worth 67pts. I think a rebuilding team values more picks. Maybe getting the 3rd and 4th was worth more to the Saints than a higher 3rd. I think a straight Latt for 93 and 131 would have been great. The actual trade feels like good value to each team given their needs.
And that's as it stands right now . Wash has not really beaten and very good teams and the strongest part of their schedule is coming up. I expect that #93 to get higher the rest of the season could be as much as 8-9 spots

Was there 2026 money before the trade? Did it all get accelerated into 2025 because of the trade? I have no idea how all that salary cap stuff works.

It's hard to tell. If we didn't trade him and decided to keep him, he'd be a prime candidate for further restructuring shenanigans. I think the 2025 cap is about the same if we kept him and didn't do anything with his contract.

There are a lot of ways to get the cap under control and media types get wound up when the Saints dont try to get under the cap in as few moves as possible. Sure, that's ideal, but it wasnt necessary to squeeze every dollar of cap savings with Kamara's new contract. We could save some money and retain his services for longer.

We're going to get some retirements soon that will really squeeze the cap, but its just more necessary medicine to take.

To me improving our scouting and drafting is the biggest thing they need to do. I'm not a big fan of Loomis right now, but I think he can change, stop trading up all the time, occasionally trade down, and stop kicking the can until we are a contender again. I'll be happy if he is no longer the GM, but I can live with it if he stays and adjusts the way he has been doing things. (Which he mostly has for the last 2 years.)

On the other hand, we have to improve the scouting and player evaluation. And that likely means Ireland an Parenton need to go along with bringing in new scouts.

It would also really help if our new head coach has an eye for talent
Yes we have to draft better. I think ML has shown that he is willing to trade down with the reports that we had a deal with the Rams to trade down if Bowers was there @ our pick. A lot of our picks are too soon to tell due to injury, which you really can't know before you draft them. We also have too many players that were good picks and we mis-evaluated them and let them go to other teams like Hendrickson, Baun, Ellis. That's been on the D side of the ball so that fell on DA. So evaluating players in the draft may not be bad like you think so I'm not ready to dismiss Ireland and the scouting staff
