Saints Training Camp Updates: Day 7, July 31st (1 Viewer)

How about re-do Adebo and get Aiyuk... then not retain old and/or often injured players instead?
Would they have the money to do both this year and A would you want to do Adebo now?

From what I’ve heard on Adebo he’s savvy and will likely not cut the Saints a deal, so both he and the Saints brass might be in agreement on waiting to see what he’s able to accomplish this year b4 starting contract discussions

I mean... that's why you drafted Kool Aid and Taylor, and have the option to dump Lattimore - you know you can't keep them all at some point in the near future.

Who do you have in mind? Not sure who we would get that would be of any consequence as far as alleviating pressure on relying on our current #1, other than Aiyuk, who seems like he would be too rich of a luxury for us at this juncture.
Organization should have better addressed the RT and WR slot in free agency with more diligence. Particularly the Tackle position. We knew that one tackle would come from draft. Almost like we sat here and said we just going to make Penning work and he’s just not good and not a tackle. Poor evaluation and miss. Also knew we needed a strong veteran at WR to compliment Olave and Shaheed skill set. Not saying Wilson isn’t him but it’s not a known or sure thing at this point.

Understood, That dead cap hit for Lat is huge tho, if he’s kept beyond the trade deadline moving him next year will be costly if I’m not mistaken.

All these dead cap hits are huge for all these aging players we have held onto for too long... time to stop kicking the can and just eat it (trade him) now - or as soon as it can help us re-sign a player like Adebo or add a player like Aiyuk... or both. I'm in the same boat with Cam (blasphemy I know - but it needs to happen sooner then later too)

Lattimore, Cam, and Ram have 3 of the 6 biggest caps hits on the team for 2024.... I mean... come on... this has to stop.

Hard to disagree, especially the tackle spot. Our failure to truly address it really had me thinking we were smokescreening with Ram’s situation, but it appears that was nowhere near the case.

I think we can get away with what we have at WR. I thought we could use one more “JAG” veteran like a Hunter Renfrow or Russell Gage, but I guess the staff likes where we are at.

We can get away with the talent level we have at WR, but I have a hard time believing we won’t have a hard time masking the OL issue.

Yeah, that’s why hitting on Rattler can be a boom. If he ascends say next year and challenges Carr or something happens to Carr, you can start eating some of those cap hits while Rattler is cheap for 3 years

Lattimore for Aiyuk makes a lot of sense for both sides. Both teams have the rising depth to cover the outgoing star player while they have incredibly huge needs for the potential incoming cornerstone player. Salaries almost evenly swaps one another out; top WRs’ market seem to be a little higher than top CBs now. But can’t get any fairer than that imo.

Bonus*. Each team will get an up close and personal look at the opposing players during joint practices…just in case they consider it.

Great point! I know it’s likely a pipe dream, but that would be a pretty cool storyline if it indeed led to some sidebar conversations with our powers that be during the practice week.
