I’d love to have him but think he will break the bank.Bengals are going to let him test FA to focus on extending Chase. Should the Saints go after him? He is a solid WR that shouldn't break the bank and that is a need we could accomplish in the offseason. Would you rather a different WR in the draft and why?
Yeah that's my thinking as well. I'd love to have Higgins but he's going to be too rich for our blood with WR salaries as they are. If we're gonna make any kind of FA splash I'd rather it be on the DL either a pass rusher or a DT that can push the pocket and stop the run. If we get that kind of DT watch our edge guys get better productionI think he's going to break the bank. WR money has gotten out of control since around 2021.
And I tend to think it's just not necessary when there are so many good WRs that come out of college that are NFL ready or close to NFL ready. I think you're better off investing that free agent money on the DL or signing a high level LG.
LOL you do know that Higgins is 6'4' and 219 right ??We have Tee Higgins types already in Olave and Shaheed, we need some guys 210lbs+ who can be physical, we have our speed guys already.
If we hire a defensive HC then it would be ludicrous not to retain KK and the whole offensive staff. Why make DC and the O players learn a 3rd system in 3 yrs. Also this OL is built to RUN the ball. Penning is the #5 RT in run blocking TF is also a monster at run blocking. Maybe invest a 3rd or even a 2nd on a OG that fits our systemAlthough I tend to think Higgins is going to make too much money to make sense for this team, as with most things in football, it probably depends on the scheme we play. It certainly looks like the running game is the key to the Kubiak offense and really helps Carr because it limits the hero ball that leads to turnovers, lets him use play action which is his strength, and keeps him a low volume QB which seems to work well for him. So if we are going to keep Kubiak it likely makes more sense to build the OL, find a backup RB, and look for a physical receiver in the draft. The calculation may be different in another scheme. But it looks like what we really need is some more physical WRs that can block and go over the middle on slants to beat the blitz.
The big ? is Miller. When he's played he has shown great flashes, but can he stay healthy? If so then RB may not be as big a need. But if Olave does not come back then WR is a need but one I think we should address in the draft, or at least a big pass catcher even if it's a TEThat's where I'm at, and yet I'm being cognizant that Kamara/Taysom will be a year older and so things are going to happen that will limit their availability. In those moments it would help to have a guy like Higgins, especially w/ Olave's status in the air.
The conundrum w/ this team and WR's is the same the 49ers had. The viewed Aiyuk as a #2 internally but wanted #1 WR compensation. Getting a Justin Jefferson is great when it happens, but the scheme doesn't gear itself towards needing an Elite #1 WR anyway. Logically because you're not passing the ball 40x's a game regularly. It's almost a luxury. WR's aren't getting 11-12 targts a game, every week.
OL, RB, TE are higher on my radar right now.
I doubt Olave retires, if he was older and had played more yrs maybe but I'll bet he plays. But even if he does WR is still a need but not a need that we have to spend today's WR money on Higgins.Which is what we can get in the draft, but we still need WR and I think it's still better to go after Higgins to fill that need. We need so much in the draft that if Higgins is available, I think it's better to go after him versus using a draft pick on an unknown WR. Have some guaranteed money on the table and I think it would be easy to bring him in. He could cost a lot or it might not, but at least here, he would probably be that top WR as we move on from Olave (given his concussions).
Maybe you should go look at how many games he's missed in his career before saying thathe’s another guy who’s always hurt who will want big money
