So, Were the Players Ticked Off by the Booing? (1 Viewer)

You beat a bad Giants team and DeVito was only a narrative because you have been bad vs running QB's for multiple seasons. I picked the Giants to win because up until that point, the Saints hadn't proved they could stop dynamic TE's and running QB's. Overall, the Saints played well but if there was 1 thing I could criticize about this game was that it's another slow start by the offense.

The thing that baffled me the most about this game is the fact that I didn't understand what the Giants were trying to do on offense. I feel like Daboll pulled a Pete Carmichael. The first play he calls a deep route, seemed like there weren't many designed QB runs and they threw the ball a lot more than I thought they were.

The players need "motivation" to do their job? I thought that is what the money was for?
And seriously these gen Y & Z players wouldn't have made it through game day in the 1980s. The Dome was brutal. I have friends who used to go to the games and work their way down to behind the Saints bench so they could give it to the players. And the ushers would be right there shaking their heads in approval saying "you right...".

It's a bit more subtle than that.

The players need discipline, standards, and expectations. They need to be told when they're not performing as expected. They also need to be excited about their work and when they're doing something well.

Normally the coach would handle this, but DA and Carmichael simply don't have that skillset. We've seen some of the players attempt to step up and sort of fill the void (Kamara in particular) but that didn't work. If you're looking at the chart here:

DA & Carmichael would be at the bottom left (low assertiveness, low expression, i.e. systems people).

If the fans can step up and "center" the team's energy (by being direct through booing, or spirited through cheering), that's awesome. It demonstrates a high level of awareness of how the product on the field needs to be refined, and that the players appreciate our energy that brings balance to a lopsided leadership culture.

No problem, pretty soon seats will be empty and there will be no more booing. My analogy is that of a bad marriage. The poor effort of one spouse needs to be called out at some point. At the point apathy sets in and there is no complaining it may be over. The booing means the fans still care. Tread carefully Saints.
Earnhardt used to say I don’t care if they boo or cheer as long as they are making noise. He got it. When you hear silence it means they either don’t care about you or they quit coming.

Jeff is entertaining to listen to, imo, but I don’t get this at all. Isn’t booing the team in hopes it motivates them to perform better? Who is Pearl clutching? Whole point of that tweet seems weird and contradictory.

In hopes of motivating them? Come on. No one thinks that. It's a base level of expressing disappointment and contempt. There's nothing good involved.

I don’t know if the players were motivated by the fans booing them, but I can’t imagine they were expecting to hear cheers when they were underperforming.

Nobody is giving the waiter a tip when you see them spit in your food (after they dropped it on the floor).

So fans boo hoping it makes them play worse, not better?

The couple of times I boo’d was due to us constantly having Kamara and Taysom on the sideline. Yes it was a basic way to show displeasure and hoping they would start putting Taysom and Kamara on the field. Doesn’t seem to that complicated to me
