So, Ya'll are Telling Me this Offense Is Built Around Taysom Hill? (3 Viewers)

We don’t know what Miller can do on a consistent basis because he hasn’t shown it, and that’s a concern. We are missing what he was drafted to provide; a capable every down back who can spell Kamara effectively. Williams seems like a great guy and a fun character, but he’s not impactful enough as a runner. People talk about adding a WR, I think there’s a much bigger need at tailback.

Offensive and defensive lines need better depth. Underhill and the other Saints focused media all said OL depth was a big concern during camp. We've been blessed with a brilliant performance early with the core five on the offensive line, but it is clear there is nothing after that. Losing McCoy shouldn't be that kind of destruction to the offense, but it was. Defensive line... this was a bad defensive line last season. This year they lost Kpass to injury, signed Young who has so far been good, and traded for a one dimensional run focused DT in Ridgeway. However Jordan's done. He looks so slow and it is only week three. Turner and Foskey? Liabilities at best. This line boils down to Young, Bresee, and Granderson and as the game wears on you can see their legs giving out. The fact Bresee somehow made two sacks at critical moments today speaks volumes to how much heart he has. You know the big man was out of gas yet somehow got the engine revved. I got heat for saying before the season started that the Saints DL as a whole needed to be better. Unfortunately the same issues the Saints had last season on the DL reared its head again today. They just need better depth players. I don't expect an All Pro to be replaced by an All Pro, but right now the backups for the trenches really can't even be called serviceable.

So to me personally, that's where I am going if I am Loomis and Ireland. I am going crazy looking to see what can be done to try to shore up the trenches. After that I'll figure out the sexy positions, but right now the Saints have a trenches problem and if that doesn't get fixed, no amount of sexy can save them.

This shouldn’t be overlooked, either. It’s not going to go the Saints way every week. There will be tough games and disappointing team performances.

Look around the league today - there were a number of surprising outcomes. That’s the way it goes in the NFL.

Number of people who predicted a Sam Darnold led Vikings would be on top of the NFC and a Justin Fields led Steelers would be on of the AFC right now: 0.

Uh, what? Why wouldn't you rely on your center, who happens to be the cornerstone of the OL, to do what he does? Your comment makes no sense.
What makes no sense is when people use a crutch by saying, oh our center is out so that’s why the offense is shoddy. All teams loose players including the eagles losing 2 olineman and ther #2 wr and after there #1 was already out. When you rely on one player to the detriment of the team it’s a problem. We don’t have a serviceable backup center, we don’t have a QB that can call protection’s reliably. Our oline depth is non existent, so if the coaching staff cannot see what is plain as day, it’s a problem. We made 0 moves in free agency to even try to acquire serviceable o linemen and apparently after today, the coaching staff had zero contingency plans if one goes down.

What? The defense bailed the offense out for three quarters. The Eagles have a good TE. The Saints don't. Imagine having Graham in this game..
Jalen hurts and siriani bailed out the D you mean. Hurts looked comfortable most game. Converted many long third downs.

The interception and fumble was on hurts. Blocked punt wss a great ST play

I’m not as down on the defensive line as you are but we’ll see.

I’d like to see some analysis of the Saints’ offensive production before and after McCoy went out. I didn’t think we looked good when he was in. (Edit: I wasn’t recalling correctly the timing of his injury) My initial take is the Eagles have a really good defensive front and they showed up in a big way today.

I really didn’t like the play calling from Kubiak. I also didn’t like the decision to not kick FGs when we were struggling so much on offense. This was a game to take what was there.

I can handle the before.

3 plays, 17 yards (9 passing, 8 rushing)

Y'all can handle the after. :hihi:

McCoy went down so early, but the three snaps he had looked like business as usual for the O. After he went down the interior pressure increased a concerning amount, and only got worse as the game wore on.

I agree with you. Everything felt good with that first drive and then not so much for most of the game afterward.

The only play I saw Jordan he did look bad.

As far as Turner and Foskey I truly forgot that they’re even on the team. Did they play? I’ll go look at the box score, and I’m not being sarcastic with that…truly forgot about em. Sad when it’s two high picks.

Thank goodness we struck gold with Carl as it looks like we struck out with those other guys.

All players don't have the same impact on a game. It's not at all a crutch. Center on this team is the second most important position because of what he does and is the most difficult to replace unless you have a very experienced backup. We simply don't have someone who can do it remotely as well as he does at this point. It comes with the territory, pretty much all offenses losing their center are going to see a significant drop-off in OL play.

We didn't make zero moves though. Maybe you slept through the off-season, idk.

Turner, Foskey and Miller are wasted draft picks to this point. We have no depth on the offensive line, defensive line, running back, tight end. We continue to waste draft capital trading up. Maybe its time to change strategy?
But we didn't trade up for any them. We just suck at drafting. More picks doesn't solve the problem if they keep drafting the same players.
