'The Boys' new Amazon series coming in July... (2 Viewers)

If you're still enjoying this show, I think that's great and good for you for having something you enjoy. This season is just really bogging down for me. It goes back to my previous post about only really caring about the stuff that directly relates to Homelander. I was (and am) intrigued by the concept of what do we do if Superman is bad? And I feel like the early seasons were focused on that (with the occasional over the top sex/violent scene). But now they seem to have lost their way, and the over the top shock value scenes are wagging the dog. I know people will say "they're building to that", but you can spend too long building to something, and I think at this point they're just milking this with stories/characters going nowhere to spend time until we eventually get a Homelander confrontation. I don't know, just seems pretty aimless at this point, and the narrative is just how to we get from one disgusting scene to the next. And the political satire isn't even satirical. They're just taking direct quotes from Republican politicians and incorporating it into the script. Any subtlety that might have been there before is gone, and it's just hamfisted wheel-spinning at this point.

I'm mostly in the same boat as you. The plot seems thin and serves as a vehicle to get to the extreme scenes, instead of the scenes serving the plot. Still finding it entertaining enough to finish out the season/series, but also glad that it will end after the following season.

Agreed! We go from
Hey! That's the exact thing *insert politician* said recently!
to
Wow... that guy just split into 6 versions of himself to eat his own booty multiple times!
or some other crude scene. Yeah, the story moves along, but it does seem like it's just to see how they can out-crude themselves in the next scene.

the show runner was pretty clear about what he thinks about the ones who don't like the political tones of this season.
That's cool and all, but has anyone reminded him about Buzzcut the telekinetic?

Or maybe that Frenchie is finally doing something to right the scales? Not to mention one of the CIAs major assets has volunteered for Death Row?

The show has deviated pretty strongly from the comic (which was never high art to begin with) and in losing that structure is just meandering and trying to be as crass and debased as possible. It's all pretty bad now.

I know people are always reluctant to admit something they enjoy is falling off, but this show has fallen off.

I agree that this season was a a falling off, but I am really glad they abandoned everything about the comic, structure included. Following the comic (in my opinion) wasn’t going to lead to a good show.

I felt like the comic actually tried way harder to be as crass and debased as possible.

I think the show made the (unfortunately) common mistake of spinning their wheels, knowing they had one more season to “really” wrap stuff up.

It hasn’t and it won’t chase me away from the show, but it’s disappointing how crass it has become. It’s unnecessary.

As for the overt political “satire”, it bothers me most how close to reality it is. Scary times.

I miss the more subtle version of the show that winked at me and I laughed. This is just so "in your face" and there's no subtlety to it at all. It went from tickling me gently to punching me in the ribs.

I'm still having fun with it and it's still must see TV for me, but this is a big drop off from the previous seasons. The thing is, it was so good it had a lot of room to fall and still be enjoyable.

Just watched episode 7.

I found myself literally laughing out loud as Frenchie sawed off Kimiko's leg because it was so over the top horrible in nature.

A-Train coming to save the day was nice. I don't think we've seen the last of him.

The Antifa puppet hour was hilarious to me.

"Noir" and Deep finding out that they were both boinking Sage was hilarious. I think Sage is using Noir for traditional sex and Deep for backdoor action. Insinuating that Noir is bigger downstairs. Turrbl

Homelander's glance at her breasts as Firecracker offered him some milk to assuage his anger had me cracking up because it almost worked.

Homelander ripping Webweaver in half was also over the top and made me laugh a little.

The skin shedding shape-shifter getting a hold of Starlight was a shock.

i felt bad for Ambrosia dying in the closet like that. I kept waiting for Deep to get a conscience and save her.

I've forgotten a few things but overall I'm thoroughly enjoying the show. I can't wait to see how it all ends.

3 things. Why didn't they finidsh off The Deep? I understand they were worried about "Black Noir" coming back, but i feel they could have finsihed him off quickly.
And the handcuffs Annie was in, i am curious what kind of metal is that? I am pretty sure they are the exact cuffs they had Kimiko in before before French finally decided to let her go in the first season right before she saved him from Back Noir.
Sage's notebook. is that the first time it was shown, did i miss that she has been writing in that notebook, and was that Queen Maeve on the cover, and who is the only person Homelander can't defeat (or somwthing like that Sage said).
Also, how many days after the episode airs do we have to use Spoiler tag?

We don't have a hard number of days, but I like to wait until the next episode before not using a spoiler tag. So a week?

Ok that was wild

”Where we go one we go Vought” killed me

MM getting picked up by Love Sausage(?) was a nice callback
Annie got fired up right in comic time
I wonder what Ashley turned in to. It appeared she was transforming, at least
I thought for sure when Frenchie and Kimiko kissed that Frenchie wasn’t making it out of this one. Thought for sure Cate was going to make him walk into the river or something. Then Kimiko yelling got me a little
Vicky finally tried to do the right thing for her daughter, just for her to end up at Red River too. I was curious if Vicky’s powers could actually work on Homelander, but guess we have to wait and see if Marie Moreau is up to the task

That was a helluva way to end a season IMO, can't wait until the final one...

That was possibly the most kick-the-can, forced cliffhanger ender I've ever seen. Could've easily written a lot of that into the season. I was patient with this comparatively mediocre season, but that yucked me out big time. This is the first finale of this show that I felt like I wasn't really looking forward to the next season.

And can someone please tell me why Kimiko told Frenchie that she and he will NEVER happen?

Kimiko saw how Frenchie felt about Colin, I think they've always had more of a brother/sister 'love' dynamic, plus she's got a metric ton of things to work through herself i.e. the Shining Light, so I think the last thing she wants is to get romantically involved w/ anyone...

I am not disagreeing with you but I always thought they were in love with each other up until THAT episode. I almost want to watch the entire series from episode one on because I think I may have missed something but also because it's great.
Well, that didn't really sit right with me and it turns out that my initial feelings were spot on. Right?

Great episode.

Ryan accidentally breaking his aunt's neck as truly sad for me but he TOLD her he wanted to leave after they dropped the bomb about his father being a mass-murdering gRapist. And that death solidified Butcher's choice to end the supes.

I felt bad for Nueman who genuinely wanted to leave all of this mess behind.

Starlighter getting mad at Hughie for sleeping with the switch pretending to be her was hilarious to me as he tried to defend himself.

Firecracker getting sick from the meds and Homelander being disgusted by her was both tragic and satisfying.

Butcher is full on unhinged now and apparently getting stronger while "dying". Btw, I'm not sure Nueman is REALLY dead, but if so, what are they gonna do with her daughter?

Evidently Deep has gone fully off the deep end and had embraced his villainy last episode and this one.

Not sure where they are going with Soldier Boy, but man this lady season is gonna be a doozy.

I'm sure I left out a few things but I'll be back to comment on them when I think of them.
