TIL: Today I Learned... (4 Viewers)

Doesn’t Nick at Night show mostly dreck like King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond ? I think the last time Nick at Night showed anything good was in like ‘96 .

Yeah, i do like retro tv/movies & music, but i think it’s healthy to occasionally take a glance at the past, not to live there.. i feel like most of the current country “artists” pine for the ‘good ol days’ and their songs are about peaking in high school and *living* in the past .
i like to have reruns of queens and raymond on playing tjnt he background. i like that cheesy arse sheet. oh and fresh peinxe love or hate the slapppp.

It’s all good, you like what you like.. i have heard Raymond is actually decent though ive never watched it myself .

If im going the retro route, to have on in the background or to actually watch- my choices would be classic sitcoms like Cheers or Bob Newhart (the OG one where he’s a psychologist) or KRP or Taxi, or ancient episodes of Johnny Carson.. Some of the ones that Nick at Night shows seem like they only went off the air a couple of years ago , while the ones i like have been out of production for many decades .

Ok well there are channels showing those shows, which will prevent you from getting sucked into the Nick at Night cycle.. and shockingly, many of those channels are available with an over the air antenna .. and free streaming sites as well .

We just got an antenna for the Pelicans games. We're catching all kinds of stuff. 25 bucks, can't beat it.

when i hooked up my antenna about 5 years ago, i was surprised at how many OTA channels there were. I'm in Prairieville, so i picked up like 25 channels.
There were a few than played old shows. like MeTV, Antenna TV, i think there was a western channel, among others. heck there was even a HSN (or maybe it was QVC) OTA channel.. although i don't use it that often, mainly as a backup if my IPTV service is down when watching the Saints.
The Antenna i got was an outdoor one. If i was in BR, i could probably get away with an indoor one.

I have a fairly new Samsung TV, and I connected it to my network so that I could watch NetFlix, Hulu, etc. One day I noticed an icon for "SamsungTV," so I clicked on it, and found dozens of channels of free tv.

yea, all smart TVs have that now. The Rokus and LGs have the same kind of stuff too. but they are all web based, so if you lose internet.....
But if you like those types of channels, the app PLUTO TV is great. if you haven't used it, i recommend it,. Xumo, Tubi, Crackle and there are more also. But for free, PLUTO is the best..
But if you have an antenna, there is a way to incorporate them into that LG guide.

Ours is propped inside on top of the window frame and the curtains hide it nicely, at least 25 or 30 channels

i have one like this i got from Amazon for like $35, i had some old trampoline poles i put together and stuck it up next to my house in the back, just right abouve the height of the eave of the house. it came with an amplifier and it gets power through the coax cable so that the remote will turn it to tweek the reception. I was actually surprised at how well it worked for that price, now its mostly plastic, but i've had it over 5 years...

To be fair, Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens went off the air close to 20 years ago :p

TIL that Boston’s More Than A Feeling was NOT a #1 hit song .. it only peaked at #5.. that’s ok, i know that it occupies a place in all of our hearts at #1 , so it’s fine- but if anyone ever tells you ‘the world has gone crazy’- they are not wrong, but apparently the world has always been a crazy place, or at least for the last 40 or 50 years- if that song did not make it to #1 .
