TIL: Today I Learned... (3 Viewers)

On a similar note, yesterday I learned that Kansas' Carry on Wayward Son never even made it into the top ten.

I did not realize that, that is some wild ish… what i did learn fairly recently, only in the last few years- is that Wayward Son was recorded only about an hour north of NOLA, in Bogalusa, La… i had loved that song for decades before i ever knew that factoid .

That recording studio is Studio in the Country and has been in operation since 1972. It sits on a 26-acres wooded area between Bogalusa and Varnado.

TIL that Boston’s More Than A Feeling was NOT a #1 hit song .. it only peaked at #5.. that’s ok, i know that it occupies a place in all of our hearts at #1 , so it’s fine- but if anyone ever tells you ‘the world has gone crazy’- they are not wrong, but apparently the world has always been a crazy place, or at least for the last 40 or 50 years- if that song did not make it to #1 .
Considering that More Than A Feeling was part of a debut album, it did exceptionally well. Eventually the album would become a hallmark for the genre of its era. That was one of my favorite albums and was likely one of the Top 5 debut rock albums of all time. I literally wore out my Boston audio cassette listening to it over & over back in the day.

Yep, i had been following SITC for years on social media, and knew they had had some really big names come thru there- but even so, I wasn’t aware of the Wayward Son connection til recently .. im kinda slow .

J. D. Miller's Recording Studios in Crowley, LA is another famous recording studio that I only learned about in recent years. While helping mostly local talent get their start, they also had some mainstream artists like Paul Simon & John Fogerty record there.

When my son was taking drum lessons years ago that's the first complete song he learned. I must've heard that song 1000 times with him playing along with it.

Continuing on this theme, i- again, being slow on the uptake- fairly only recently learned that one of my favorite Paul McCartney & Wings songs - Listen to What the Man Said - was recorded at the old Sea Saint studios in Gentilly.. i would have only been a baby when it occurred , but i still have a little extra appreciation for that song when i hear it, knowing that backstory .

I grew up with that song being a regular part of the radio airwaves. But I am happy to learn today that it was born in Gentilly.
There's a LOT of incredible music heritage around here! :very-happy:

Can’t believe i taught you something about music.. if you are anything like me, you may have known that at one time, but simply forgotten in the intervening decades …. apparently Paul, Linda and the crew had a marvelous time at the Mardi Gras that year while recording, since they were able to walk around in disguise without being recognized.. plenty of pics online of that experience .

I also remember being told many years ago that Little Richard recorded Tutti Frutti & Jenny Jenny at J&M Studios in New Orleans.
So I looked it up and confirmed that this is true. You just can't get any more iconic in the rock & roll genre than those songs. These classics are the very reason that the Beatles added the "WOOOOOO"s to their early songs. And it all started in New Orleans!!!

McCartney talks about Little Richard all the time in interviews.. apparently he and the Beatles were obsessed with him .

The Beatles loved Fats Domino as well. They couldn't wait to meet him when they came to New Orleans in 1964. All this 'local' music is what inspired the Beatles to create the music that inspired practically every rock & pop musician of our generation!

I had to look up who did the 'kiss smack' heard on the track. It was Linda Eastman. :hearts:
