TIL: Today I Learned... (1 Viewer)

Spent most of my life thinking she was heir to the Eastman Kodak fortune.. turns out, she was no relation to them .
She probably wouldn't have been trying to make a living as a photographer if that had been the case. Her contact with Paul McCartney changed her life completely. What a way to become a singer and musician. :hihi:

I also remember being told many years ago that Little Richard recorded Tutti Frutti & Jenny Jenny at J&M Studios in New Orleans.
So I looked it up and confirmed that this is true. You just can't get any more iconic in the rock & roll genre than those songs. These classics are the very reason that the Beatles added the "WOOOOOO"s to their early songs. And it all started in New Orleans!!!
Mom had a tour of the Dew Drop Inn the other day and they spoke specifically about little Richard hearing Tutti Frutti at the Dew Drop Inn and that being what made him decide to go in that direction vs the Ray Charles like direction his label was pushing

I grew up with that song being a regular part of the radio airwaves. But I am happy to learn today that it was born in Gentilly.
There's a LOT of incredible music heritage around here! :very-happy:
Pffft. Baltimore gave us Frank Zappa, Momma Cass Elliott, Eubie Blake, Billie Holiday, Cab Calloway, and John Doe. End of discussion

And Greg Kihn

:ezbill:

Actually Baltimore is well known for classical music due to its symphony orchestra and Meyerhoff theater. I wouldn’t know too much about that cuz nekulturny :hihi:

I did not realize that, that is some wild ish… what i did learn fairly recently, only in the last few years- is that Wayward Son was recorded only about an hour north of NOLA, in Bogalusa, La… i had loved that song for decades before i ever knew that factoid .
TIL that ..... MY HUSBAND ALREADY KNEW THIS AND NEVER TOLD ME!!!!

Crack the Sky was actually from Weirton, WV. Their excellent eponymous first album had problems with distribution nationwide, but for some reason Baltimore got an inordinate amount of the available albums, hence their popularity in the Baltimore area. Sadly, following the distribution gaffe the band never gained national notoriety.

I said that New Orleans has “a LOT” of music heritage.
Not all of it. :hihi:

Ballmer put 'em on the map. Good enough for me.

Kinda like seafood. Lots of great recipes, but not all of them. You ain't lived till you've been to Baltimore and put mayo and Old Bay on your French fries :hihi:

Without a doubt NOLA has the best food of any city I've visited.

You’re both kidnapped?
We never trained for this

(also it was 80% the Mayo take that was the cry for help)
I'm triggered by my inability to find Old Bay when I first moved down here. I can find it now but the trauma is real. I've never done the mayo thing but I'm also not opposed to it. I'm more an onion ring person which, now that I think about it, mayo would be AWESOME on. So if someone wants to kidnap me and feed me onion rings and mayo and Old Bay, I'd be down for it
