Time to give Haener a shot (1 Viewer)

Until Mccoy and Ruiz are back in the lineup and healthy, who plays QB makes absolutely no difference.

Can't be an effective QB when the pressure is in your face as soon as you turn around.

I thought it was insane how much the board was crowning Rattler 2 weeks ago, but it’s equally insane to draw conclusions from the last two games. Especially last night. That was a no win situation.
The conclusion should be is no one should be touting Sr as the future . He didn't show any indication that he's the future. Nor did he prove that he can't be developed

I mean no offense but, this is so disrespectful of Brees as a prospect. He would have been the #1 overall pick if he was two inches taller. If you saw him throw it in Joe Tiller's offense, there was never a question of his arm strength. The narrative changes on him as time goes by and people only seem to remember late stage Drew. He could absolutely rip it.

Nothing to do with Haener, who I really like, but he's not the prospect that Brees was. Could he be the next Brock Purdy? Who knows?

Again, I realize you're not calling Haener the next Brees. It just always bothers me that people forget how good he was in college.
You could say the same thing about Jake. LOL. 2 in taller and JH would have been a top pick. Drew never had a rocket arm, he could make all the throws just like JH can. Maybe you should go watch JH @ Fresno St

If you watch Caleb Williams first 2 starts this season and had to draw a conclusion it would have been that he is terrible.

Rookies struggle. Bo Nix was not great last night either does that mean he’s not the future for the Broncos? Idk. Benching Rattler next week seems pointless to me. If you’re going to give the man a shot, don’t bail after his second game coming off a short week of practice. Let him work through it. Just my opinion.

Williams showed all through college that he had what it took to be a franchise QB. That's why he went #1. Daniels showed a lot of the same things , hence #2. SR did not show the same things they did hence he was a 5th rd pick. What they put on tape for the yrs in college gave people the confidence to in Williams case believe he would be fine. SR has not shown that either in college or in the 2 games he started. No he may and I expect him to get better. But if we want to win games JH is probably a better choice

I clearly said that I wasn’t comparing his ability to Brees. I was actually pointing out that Brees was undervalued due to not being as physically superior to Rivers, much like Haener isn’t as physically gifted as Rattler. It was an analogy to how we’re evaluating their ability to be the QB of the future. I never said anything about Brees’ arm. I think Rivers was considered superior because he fit the mold more than Brees. I think their arm strengths were comparable. In a sense, people also think Rattler fits the mold better than Haener too. Both Brees and Haener are undervalued for different reasons, but both are good at processing. That doesn’t mean Haener is as good as Brees at processing or anything else, but processing is one of Haener’s strengths, and that is very important for a QB that primarily relies on passing. Whether it is enough or not is still TBD.

Dude, get over yourself. I wasn't speaking for anyone other than myself. Just go on about your business now.
People can realistically want one of two things for the QB position this next game - to see Rattler make his third start or see Haener make his first start. And yes, there are people who would like to see Haener start as tough as that seems for you to handle. I should probably go ahead and Mark Twain my way out this conversation with you now.

What game were you watching ? 1st 3 passes had no drops other than the Bronco's DB that dropped a sure pick
Denver should’ve had a least two more picks off Rattler and a fumble he lost. He was lucky it wasn’t a worse night for him.

Good analogy. SR was not good enough to start for Oklahoma, is he good enough to start in the NFL? That’s a question still. But it’s time to give Jake a chance at least for the coaches to evaluate him. Do I think he’s going to come in and play great, no, of course not. But it should provide valuable game tape to evaluate him. With tape on both players the coaches can make a fair comparison of them. My opinion is neither will be NFL starters.

This is all things I said before they played him. But noooo, our fans continue to gaslight. Rattler should have never seen the field. Now that we have destroyed his confidence you want to sit him down and put in Haener for more of the same. You're not going to win if Patrick Mahomes was the quarterback, the team has given up on the coach. Even Richard Sherman saw it.

The best thing is for Rattler to continue to ride it out tbh. He won't be starting again for a long time after we draft another Quarterback in next year's draft.

I generally agree, but disagree on a couple of fine points: It's not all bad to emotionally stress young QBs, who face a lot worse things in the NFL than losing. If they can't take that type of stress, they're not NFL QB material to start with.

A good QB that can lead is more important to the team than you may think, and can rally an entire team despite a mediocre coach.

Great point. But the atmosphere for Rattler to succeed isn't there, the deck is stacked against him and he isn't set up to win. He may want to win but the veteran players around him have had enough and want the coach fired.

Look I am in the camp of I don't care who starts for the saints as long as we win, But saying Rattler wasn't good enough to start at Oklahoma is stupid. He did start at Oklahoma and in 2020 which he had 28 passing td's and 8 ints and 6 rushing td's. The fact that williams took the job in 2021 shows why he was the #1 pick. Do I think Rattler can be a future starter yes, But I also think the same of haener if they have time to develop. But this team is so injured right now that it doesn't matter who starts.
