Time to give Haener a shot (2 Viewers)

Didn't Spencer Rattler open the game with 3 dropped passes? We're talking hit the receiver in the hands drops.
He opened the game with a dropped interception on a pass that should have never been thrown because the receiver was NOT open.

You made the very point of asking, "Who really wants to see Haener to come out and throw 37 passes?" I answered that I think Haener is capable of handling that volume and gave back up to support it.
I guess you've never heard of rhetorical questions.

In garbage time.
You can dismiss it, but the defense also pinned their ears back to rush. He got the ball out quick and accurately. The rush was coming just as fast. Haener won the 2nd string due to showing better throughout camp. The staff gambled that Rattler might provide a spark, and it was worth a shot, but he doesn’t run the offense as well. Haener can scramble well too, but he obviously prefers to pass first, and I think that is better in the long run.

No one to throw to, no blocking, no run game, and bad defense. You can put Drew back there and it wouldn’t matter. I understand why people want to see Haener but I just don’t see it being any different. It might be worse. Haener needs a clean pocket. He’s not making people miss like Rattler has.

I suppose you didn’t see Haener scrambling on every pass against the Chiefs and he also ran it. Haener showed good pocket awareness. Also, Haener found receivers open almost immediately. He makes quick decisions.

Meaningless snaps. Plus we’ve had a ton more injuries since the Chiefs game.

We aren’t winning with Rattler and maybe couldn’t win with Drew behind this line. Only an idiot coach would not give Haener a shot just for evaluating purposes. I don’t thin Rattler is the answer long term his best shot is to be a viable backup. May be the same for Haener.

I thought it was insane how much the board was crowning Rattler 2 weeks ago, but it’s equally insane to draw conclusions from the last two games. Especially last night. That was a no win situation.

This has Aaron Brooks/Jake Delhomme vibes written all over it. It's going to get weird.
i don’t know why we’re arguing about it really. Carr is going to be back after next week anyway. There is no controversy.

Rattler looks to have a better toolbox to work for the long-term plan for a number one.

But Haener's most appealling strength is his ability to learn the playbook, read and diagnose. With the Broncos selling out to stop a TD at all costs, it served him well last night. His arm is decent. I like having both of these guys and we're getting a taste of both of them, unfortunately under desperate, injury-riddled circumstances.

Sadly both are right around the 6 foot height range, but they seem to be good enough to overcome that. It's just not ideal and hampers both.

I think you stick with Rattler. Carr should regain his starting position when healthy. I hope they don't rush him back too soon.

I also don't think these rough circumstances are ruining either of these young guns. They both seem to welcome the challenge. We can build around both.
Haener’s strength is the same as Brees’ strength. Why can’t he be the long term better QB? Rattler may develop into the better QB, and he definitely has talent, but this situation is a little reminiscent of the Brees vs Rivers competition. Rivers had the physical edge on Brees, but Brees turned out to be the better QB. Obviously I’m not predicting that either will be as good, but the physical edges being attributed by some to Rattler undervalue the processing edge that Haener displays.

Haener may turn out to be the better long-term QB. I liked Haener when we drafted him last year and still have high hopes for him even after drafting Rattler. I'm also intrigued by Rattler's assets. I think we have a good problem and I can see both having success and one may end up being on another team. I just lean toward Rattler as I think he can improve on the read and react part of his game over time.
