Titanic submersible es morte (1 Viewer)

Is there a chance the families could sue the manufacturer, or still pursue OceanGate?

These families in-particular have deep pockets.

I figure having a strong enough hull would be check box 1.
They would have a hard case ahead of them. The waivers they signed said multiple times explicitly that the submersive was not certified by any regulatory body and the trip could end in death.

In the CBS piece, it showed the reporter going through the lengthy release of liability - those things are fairly ironclad on even more mundane applications, there’s no way there’s going to be a finding that the company owed them any standard of care on an experimental vessel going 4000 meters under the sea that wasn’t fully released based on known and acknowledged risk.

And what would be the point? They’re all rich as sheet. Punishment? Seems totally misplaced if they were to try.

Meters? Why not just say 0.7199424 leagues…

I understand seeking the thrill, experiencing something that few people get to experience, be there, see that, do that, etc. and that sometimes the thrill seeking can be deadly, but is it true that the submersible had no windows, and that the passengers looked at the wreck through an outside camera and a monitor inside the sub? The passengers could've been watching previously shot footage and never know it.

It had a forward porthole.

No, it had a small porthole at the front. That was only certified to 1500m and not 4000m, if what I remember reading about the complaints of the director of engineering they sacked a few years ago is right.

And the founder died, too. There's no real retribution to be had.

It was something like that. Woefully inadequate for what they were doing.

Honestly the idea of so many people out there just laughing at them while they were potentially still out there hoping to be rescued before running out of oxygen had become a little darker than what I was comfortable with.. it was this sort of unique situation where you're hoping the people are already dead because it was all so hopeless and guess I'm glad to hear it seems like they already were.
