Trevor Penning is PFF’s top graded Saint; Penning is highest graded NFL OT in Week 10 (2 Viewers)

People give this man a hard time and rightfully so. But when he is playing well he is really playing well. He doesn't just block players but he dominate them. My only issue with him is inconsistency. When he messed up he really mess up.

Disagree. Our DEs are serviceable while our DTs are not serviceable. Breese is one of the worst rated DTs in the league and Shepard and Saunders do not make plays. I would put LB ahead of DE. Also, assuming Olave and Shaheed come back, we need a 3rd WR. That need is less if we get a pass catching TE.

Did you like Jonathan Sullivan? Because this is how you draft Jonathan Sullivan again. Don't. Draft. Positions. Draft. Players.
The strictly BPA approach is a myth. Teams will draft the BPA at a POSITION OF NEED every time . A team with JJ and TJ Watt will NOT draft a edge rusher very high , probably not until the middle rounds

Bresse's stats are comparable to where he was last yr at this time and we still have 7 games left. Our DE's are not serviceable. Granderson might be but Young has been very underwhelming and Cam needs to retire. But Shepard and Saunders need to go. I'll bet the new DC shakes up the DL

If McCoy and Ruiz can get healthy/stay healthy a few more years, this group might go from Achilles heel to strength, which I guess isn't saying much because all of our strengths all of a sudden are on IR.

But seriously, McCoy, Ruiz, Penning and Fuaga could be a solid group. We might actually draft something besides OL in the first round.
And yet that solid group went to sheet when we lost McCoy. We need to sign a legit starting guard across from Ruiz. Patrick can stay as a backup and we need to draft another G/C to start developing.

Wouldn't hurt to draft another swing tackle either. We got insanely lucky Penning was not only able to make the switch but also not be a complete liability, that one pre-season game wasn't looking good.

Every OL has bad reps but TP's bad mess-ups have been rare lately

The group didn't go really south till we lost Ruiz and had to play 3rd stringers and other teams' PS players. Calling TP not a complete liability is off , not only has he not been a liability but he's been an asset especially in the run game . I think next yr he will be a quite good RT maybe top 10

It’s very likely by the time we pick in those rounds that the best players will be those positions, which I why I said that. The top half of the 1st round has a few very good d-lineman, whether edge or DT. The 2nd round I believe Tre Harris will be BPA, I think he has a chance to go in the 1st. Third and 4th round projects to have a bunch of good interior o-lineman and RB’s, along with TE’s and safeties.

Luckily for us BPA will likely align with our needs

It's funny how that happens every year. I could literally find a post from every year of someone saying this exact thing, "BPA actually aligns with our needs this year". It's just rationalizing, nothing more. And it leads to hurt feelings on draft day. But any rate, I will leave you with 2 truths...

1. There's no possible way to no that in November. None. The precise moment the Saints are on the clock, best player might be a CB. We won't know until that moment gets here.
2. Because you perceived these positions as needs, you're paying more attention to them subconsciously. Becuase you're paying more attention to attention to players at these positions, it seems like there's more better players there.
