Triplett says Saints Interest in Chris "Beanie" Wells is "Bona Fide" (2 Viewers)

I honestly wouldn't mind Wells, but only if Jenkins is gone and we can't trade down. Wells is a legit top 10 talent, and he'd be a pretty big steal in the 15 range.

Maybe our offense really revolved around Deuce and his ability to run the ball. That was the last time we were in the playoffs. Just a thought.

If you are arguing that we need to run the ball more, then I completely agree. I have had it out with other posters on here about our particular "brand" of football. By brand, I mean the predilection to pass, pass, pass. We were a stronger team when we were Deuce was healthy and running the ball. No doubt.

I am contending, though, that we have the piece in place to be an effective running team right now. I am all but convinced if PT was starting last year and being given "starters" carries then about half of the threads on this board would have never existed (Reggie v. PT, Reggie is a bust, PT is Stecker, PT is the man, etc.). I really think he has what it takes to be a quality running back in the league. Maybe I am overshooting it, but I think PT has the capability to make the kind of impact at RB that Marques Colston has had at WR. Both were late round / no round (UFA) and both are playing way past their pay grade.

But even if PT is not the budding star I think he is, his current production at least suggests solid play in the back field. Imagine PT with 100 more carries. I think you have something strong there. That is why I can't stomach drafting Beanie Wells. At best, he is a luxury pick. If Wells is the bruiser that people make him out to be (and he is not-he is a nimble big man), then in order to maximize his talents Payton will have to dramatically shift his philosophy. Payton is a young Andy Reid. As much as I love a bruising running game and think it is a staple for success, I have resigned to the idea that Payton is going to pass more than run. By the way, in 2006 didn't Brees throw for over 4000 yards? I wouldn't call that "revolving" around Deuce.

At worst, I see Wells as another Curtis Enis or Cedric Benson. I said this earlier and, to my surprise, didn't feel the wrath of multitudes of posters. If he turns out to be the megastud that some purport him to be, I won't hesitate in eating crow. I think he is going to have issues with NFL speed, though, and his injuries bother me. If we were hell bent on taking a runningback, I would much prefer Knowshon Moreno because I think he fits our offense more.

if we could drop down grab their favorite S, then trade the extra pick for Michael Bush, and pick an OLB, and C in the 4th then I think everyone would be fine with it.

all good and well to say that wells to the saints is done, but after watching payton talk after the USC pro day on our needs at LB and what he saw at USC and the success you get from players from such an elite school, i wouldn't be betting my house on wells.

personally i think we'll go LB even though i want Jenkins. We can get a big back in the later rounds

I wouldn't be upset if we drafted Wells. I've softened on that position. But, I wouldn't be thrilled, either. It would just be one of those "meh" things. Hopefully he turns out, but I wouldn't be doing cartwheels.

Yeah, I think you're right. I like Jenkins alot and I do think they would take him if he was there. But I get the feeling that Clay Matthews could be a Saint . . . .

:goodpost:

i would not be upset if we draft beanie the only thing that scares me about well is his injurys in college

If there is one thing that bugs me, it is people saying Wells has injury issues.

He missed 3 games his entire college career. I wouldn't say he has "injury problems." I don't care if your on the questionable list every week, if you play on Saturdays or Sundays then no complaints.

You will never be 100% healthy.

A couple of things:

- Can't we let the draft clock just run out on us and see what happens?
- Pierre Thomas, at worst, deserves a(nother) chance to rectify the Washington and Denver games, because that's apparently the ONLY memory some of you have of him. It's like the other 13 games after those either 1) contained no down-and-short conversions, 2) didn't see Pierre improve his running, or 3) didn't happen.

Unfortunately those two games pretty much defined our season. It sucks that he couldn't deliver when it counted but that's what it boils down to. Racking up yards against Oakland and Detroit doesn't mean a whole lot.
