What difference will it make PC will still call a -arse play!

For decades, NFL rules prohibited offensive players from directly aiding a runner in any way, whether it was pushing or pulling him. But in 2005 — six months before the Bush Push — the league clarified its stance. There would be no pulling of ball carriers by teammates, but pushing was too difficult to legislate.

So the push is where the grey area is. I guess we should just start pushing Taysom on every down and see how the league likes it.
Right, the Deuce pile-mover TD in the ‘06 divisional, for example. That was a giant cluster of bodies — how could an official tell how much of that was Deuce moving the pile vs. our guys in the back of the pile pushing it forward?

I'd worry about unintended consequences with a rule change.

I don't want flags flying for an offensive lineman pushing the pile downfield.
Maybe make a rule that a push can’t start from behind the LOS. If any player pushing the pile has to be beyond the LOS, the gimmick play goes away without getting rid of pushing entirely.

The first time I saw the play run was 3 or 4 seasons ago by the Saints with Hill inside the Saints 20 yard line. I'm pretty sure that it was the first time that a team did it, because the commentators for the game said they had never seen a team run a play that was basically a rugby scrum. It was either in Brees's second to last or last season.
We were backed up against our goal line and needed some room. Pure Rugby scrum, and we picked up more than 5 yards. Can't understand why we never saw a play that got us more than 5 yards pinned against our end zone more than once, but that's Pete Carmichael for you.

Love that play and the NFL slo-mo of it. Those Eagles were road-graded.

The Eagles are already setting up a play, where Swift lines up behind Hurts to push him, but instead he slowly runs to the left and Hurts go forward for a second but then throw a lateral pass too him and Swift has wide open run down he field cause all the defenders are in the box.

I think it should be outlawed, seems bush league, but I also wonder if defenses can somehow try to create those same physics on the other side of the ball. It’s possible I think.

Maybe bring in a heavy package and have some LBs “tush push” DEs into a wall of DTs trying to control the LOS? Keep CBs on the outside in case the offense tries something even more bush league than this play?

Or if you really want to go crazy, bring in your strongest linemen, even if they’re offensive guys, and have them create the defensive wall on the line.

Everyone keeps trying to defend against this play in a somewhat conventional nature, but I don’t think that’s how it’ll get done. Someone just needs to think outside the box.

No way can you tell me that a QB carrying a football, pushed by RBs into an OL can’t somehow be matched scientifically.

Much like the Wildcat and icing the kicker, I believe this play will eventually get phased out. Some coach will fine a loophole to counteract the loophole the Eagles found to run this play. Either that or one of their own essential players will get injured for the season after running it and that’ll end the tush push era. I donKt see this being a longterm issue. Eventually, the league always finds a way to neutralize these type of groundbreaking play designs. I doubt it survives past this season.

LSU tried it 3 times in a row on the goal line and got stoned. NE tried some weird pitch play out if a similar formation and fumbled away the ball. It’s not much different than the Drew Brees quick extend. It has a high success rate until it doesn’t. Then people move on. Don’t let them get to 3rd and inches if you can’t stop it.

Bingo. It's gonna be all the rage for maybe the rest of this season, if that, then it'll just fade into obscurity when defenses learn to deal with it, or a high-$$$ player gets hurt.

Good segment on fox right now. Most seem to like it.
