He suspects Zelenskyy was PO'd because Trump/Vance wanted a mineral rights deal with no security guarantees. Basically for nothing except maybe continued arms shipments

And I think at this point Zelenskyy is just tired and wants to do away with pretenses as soon as possible so he knows where people stand, and wants that out in the open

I really hope Congress stands up to Trump by passing a veto-proof budget that includes aid to Ukraine. But I'm not holding my breath.

Congress is useless. Has been for years.

What reporters? AP and Reuters are banned. So what you have left is Fox News, OAN, NewsMax and plants like Brian Glenn.
One reporter asked the question of Trump about what if Russia breaks the ceasefire agreement:

Vance was lecturing on diplomacy and Zelensky was responding that they tried diplomacy and it didn't work. Vance then transitioned to a fake story about conscription and Zelensky asked "ever been to Ukraine?" Which irritated Vance because the world knows the answer is no. Vance walked right into that clap.

Bro, we are at the point now, sadly, where we’ve lost the luxury of not discussing things because they might be ‘omg political’…. This is real world, impactful, grownup stuff.. if we cant talk about serious things here that are impacting daily life (or VERY soon will be)- then we’ve lost the plot , and we might as well all enjoy our quick descent into a banana republic .

I’m replying to this part of the deleted post because it needs to be said from a moderating standpoint although it’s ridiculous to have to repeat this again:

This is a privately-owned football website, with a side order of Everything Else. To ominously suggest that “we’ve lost the plot” because we don’t allow partisan political discussion on a FOOTBALL WEBSITE is ridiculous.

If you feel that strongly, go volunteer to fight in Ukraine, or go actively protest against what’s happening, or write your congressional representatives, or, hell, just go post something on the MAP.

But the rules here are the rules until the private owner of this site changes them, so please don’t try to make this about more than it is. Already the bickering is starting, so it stops here. Take it to the MAP or let it go.

And as much as an hate engaging in whataboutism- im looking at every other single post on this page of the thread , pg 2972- and to me each one seems like quality posts, as well as political in nature .. i guess im wondering what made mine seem out of line ? Genuinely asking so i can avoid in the future .

Other than the less-than-veiled criticism of moderation and the rules (which honestly was ok given this context and the way you expressed it), it’s the “when i dared criticize Dear Leader” stuff or “orange man” stuff or really any left v. right stuff at all. ONLY the Ukraine and Middle East threads have been allowed a LITTLE leeway because there’s a core following that has been respectful of other posters.

As for the whataboutism, I’m surprised that people don’t understand that the moderators don’t see everything. Thee aren’t that many of us and there certainly is no AI support searching for violations of the ToS. We only see what we happen to come across or what’s reported to us.

Also, we moderators haven’t taken some kind of training course to ensure that we’re all exactly on the same page. But Andrus has made it clear that this is how he wants it, and that’s the way it stays until he changes it. And I agree with him - for years we were able to respectfully discuss politics, but it all went to sheet in the Obama years. I’m as frustrated as anyone about what’s happening in the country but I agree with Andrus because we need this place as a refuge from all that sheet - the last thing the world needs is another Tiger Droppings.

I hope this helps clear things up.

What a forking humiliation to be an American today. My WWII veteran, Bronze Star, Purple Heart father is spinning in his grave right now. There aren't enough adjectives and adverbs in the English language to descibe how sick and disgusted I am right now.

And the Pope is like: "Screw this sheetshow, I'm outta here".

My father was also a decorated WWII vet, passed in 2014, he would feel the same way....

I, for one, would hate to see this thread locked. It's been very informative and I get much more varied news here than anywhere else, especially since I don't subscribe to The App Formerly Known As Twitter. As long as we can avoid personal attacks between posters, I don't see a problem with calling out our own govt on issues relating to Ukraine and Europe's role in that devastating war. We can call out other govts when they make idiotic and world changing policies, why not ours?

I want to take this time also to thank baarb and others for doing the dirty work of finding and posting the news about this war. Please keep up the good work!
