Underhill: Kellen Moore said he took this job with the idea that Derek Carr would be his QB (18 Viewers)

It's one thing to say, "I think he's a good QB." That could be coach speak. It's not coach speak to say, "I think he's a tremendous starter, he's a premier QB, I'm excited to work with him."

Moore didn't just say nice things about Carr. Moore praised him and showed genuine excitement about working with him the very first time he publicly spoke as the Saints head coach. It was always there. Some people just didn't allow themselves to hear it.
We will know that Moore was being truthful if Carr is still the QB in 2026 and 2027.

This is what some Saints wanted to hear at Kellen's introduction. AG didn’t come out and say they were moving on but his tone suggested they where.

The Jets have cap space to get away from players they don’t want and replace them with players they do want.

Saints fans can want a coach to stamp his feet and breathe fire all they want, it does not change the material conditions of the team as-is. This isn’t Madden Football and they can’t just turn the salary cap off. “CUT EVERYBODY AND START OVAH” makes you an expansion team. Do expansion teams win?

He never had a problem throwing over the middle with the Raiders. We haven't had any decent targets to go over the middle and when he did to Olave, he got crucified for it.

We need better options at WR and Means/KAJr could be the answers there whereas Olave is not.

I honestly didn't pay attention to him with the Raiders so I'm only judging him on what he has done here. Maybe he can throw over the middle but we don't have the personnel or didn't have the scheme to do it. If he can, that eliminates once concern that I have. But he's still a statue in the pocket. And it's odd because I think he actually is a good athlete, but he tends not to move around to buy time and rarely takes the easy running yards when they are there.

The go-to will now be “what else is he supposed to say?”

Not sure why it’s hard to accept that Kellen Moore simply wants Carr to be his starting QB in 2025.
We have a coaching staff that can make the playoffs with Carr.

What's really puzzling is that many don't want to make the playoffs with Carr. They want to burn it down and get younger, as if that's the magic pill. But even if the Saints did that, those same people would complain about how bad the front office is for doing what those fans wanted in the first place.

Strange world we live in today.

Yes, which is my point. Even the great Drew Brees, when he had our offense performing at its best, when we had bad defenses or when Sean wasn’t there, or we had injury ravaged years, did not make the playoffs in those years.

It’s an example of the importance of having a good team. You guys are making my point for me.

But yet this average to above average QB was supposed to overcome all this?
No we aren’t. Drew had far worse roster obstacles and won more games than Carr.

We are overpaying for an average to above average QB. That’s the problem.

Folks don't care

Fascinating, you may have mentioned it 4 or 5 times already. Shall I share my curiosity about the efficacy of chocolate teapots, or shall we call it a day?

No, I want to hear about the efficacy of chocolate teapots and how that relates to Saints football.

If you don't care what I'm curious about, find it trivial, and want to make fun of it, fine. But you don't have to be an arse about it or misrepresent what I said. And if you don't want to hear about it 4 or 5 times, you don't have to reply.

I'll grant you that "loved" is unlikely, but active hate will go away with winning. I personally would prefer that we had figured out a way to cut bait this season and move on, but if he plays well and puts us in the post season, I think most people will be forgiving. If anything resembling mediocrity or worse occurs this season, he'll be run out of town at the end of the season.

I don't know about forgiving, but I agree the active hate would go away if they can get into the playoffs.

Sean said the right things about Russ when he first got there. Moore inherits a quarterback that the team is financially tied to, so he was basically forced into this position.

Even then people didn't like him. All the credit was given to Kubiak for the hot start.

The hatred for Carr ridiculously started with the Chipotle thing. But it continued with him incorrectly yelling at Olave and then getting into an argument on the field with McCoy. Then he wasn't here for the Super Bowl or Mardi Gras while Jameis Winston was here showing people how great it is to be here. So rightly or wrongly, he lost the fans early and has done little to change that. And at this point, I doubt anything could change it.

Winning will turn down the heat, but he will never be liked or certainly not loved here.
So true. He will never be liked by a lot of saints fans, but this can really get ugly next season if Carr comes out like a turd in a punch bowl. Fans are going to comes for blood if the season goes downhill fast.

Well, since a chocolate teapot has as much meaning and relevance as your repetitively overstated curiosity, I'd say it's a wash.
