UnitedHealth CEO shot (1 Viewer)

Was Luigi rich though? He comes from a wealthy family but that does not necessarily mean that he himself was wealthy. He came from privilege, no doubt. Some parents cut their kids off after they graduate college and start building their own career. We don’t know what his situation was.
He was a data engineer for TrueCar. Data engineers make well into 6 figures, I don't think he had money concern.

I did hear that he had some sort of medical issues that resulted in severe back pain. I'd postulate he had personal struggles getting care, or coverage, or pain meds, for his condition and this was personal for him.

Putting aside his very expensive education and family wealth he had a six figure software job at age 25. I'm pretty comfortable calling him rich relative to the average joe.
BUT, even at that salary, some things medically in America can get STUPID expensive. Healthcare has bankrupt VERY wealthy people in America.

Sure. We'll hear a lot more about his exact situation soon enough. But to me it looks more like 'psychotic break' than anything else.

Also, of course, living in Honolulu is very cheap.

His LinkedIn states he lives in Hawaii. It’s expensive to live there. I would guess a young software engineer makes about $125-$160K. Thats not a lot of money in a high COL area. It’s not rich but okay.

This. Even most people who are doing well could not shoulder the cost of a chronic illness or surgery with the cost of healthcare in this country.

LOL - 25 year old struggling to make it remote working from his surfer village in Hawaii on $150k - it's a wonder he didn't snap sooner.

you just have so much empathy for people dont you.
A second source familiar with Mangione's stay at Surfbreak said back pain was a major theme of his life at that time. He tried to surf in Hawaii and was not able to. This appeared to be a source of pain and frustration for him, said the source.

The background image on Mangione's X account shows an X-ray of a spine with hardware in it, reflective of previous surgery. It is not known if this is an X-ray of Mangione's spine. An orthopedist told CBS News that the image appeared to show a hardware fusion likely for spondylolisthesis.

More on his debilitating injury

This, R.J. said, was a significant factor in Luigi’s decision to avoid dating. "He knew that dating and being physically intimate with his back condition wasn’t possible," R.J. revealed, adding, "I remember him telling me that, and my heart just breaks."

Doesn't sound like he was living the carefree playboy lifestyle Sparkle seemed to think he was living

I do. Clearly the guy has issues, both physical and mental. I'm just not buying the argument that he was financially strapped. I have a 22 year old living in Manhattan (not exactly cheap) making about half of what this guy makes and somehow she's still finding a way to eat sushi 2x week.

So because he came from privilege, made good decisions to get an education and go to graduate school so he could get a high paying entry level job, he’s immune from challenges and suffering?

Should he have said “nah, with all my privilege, I’m going to just go to community college and become a dental assistant making slave wages because a 25 year old doesn’t deserve a well paying job” ?

A 25 year old with mental health issues? Say it isn't so.

Mental health is another terribly broken area of a broken healthcare system.

How many school children have died in mass shootings with no changes to gen laws but watch how things change now that one of their own has been gunned down.
