UnitedHealth CEO shot (3 Viewers)

Thought she did a really good job of describing what a lot of us are feeling.

I understand her point of view completely. Typical interdisciplinary care plan where I work:

Good guys--
Medical Director--MD, 30 years experience
Social worker-Masters degree and 12 years experience
Director of rehab- SLP, masters degree and 25 years experience
Director of Nursing - BS Nursing 22 years experience
OT/PT as needed- DPT or masters degree and 25 years+ experience
Patient- life on the line

Bad guys--
United Healthcare case manager--took a medical terminology class

Guess who makes the call when to cut?

The dead CEO or the the death of people insured by united Healthcare when his company failed to act in their best interest?
To me, the answer to that question is both.

I am deeply disturbed when the overwhelming reaction to a man being shot down in cold blood in broad daylight is "he deserved it." To be up front, I am against the death penalty in all cases. I certainly believe the man and his company are unethical in their practices and guilty of negligence in the death of many, many patients, but I'm not going to go on a political rant about about the mess that is the health care system.

I'm just going to say taking a life only escalates the violence. I don't think this action will fix anything, and it certainly won't bring back anyone who died as the result of unethical choices by an medical insurance company. The loss of any life that could be saved is horrible.

Maybe one day it will get through to the US population as a whole that we are all a diagnosis away from financial ruin. The answer is to remove the current for-profit-only system and replace it with a system that actually serves its customers and not corporations.

Healthcare systems shouldn't have customers. As long as healthcare is considered commerce nothing will change.

honestly, i need to get an MRI. i keep putting it off because its gonna cost me over $500, and thats with the insurance. and now my daughter has to have one because of an old Softball injury. So i'm looking at over $1K . thats rediculous...

And I'm trying to show you, that is it indeed greener, and they are at least watering their grass. Just because theirs is also flawed, doesn't mean we shouldn't look to them as a better model. We spend the most per capita on healthcare, by a good margin, and largely have very poor health outcomes.

It doesn't have to be a perfect solution, to be better than the current American model.

Great post, I agree completely. My sister (and husband) moved to France in 2017 and at least their experience is that healthcare in France has been better (and much less expensive) than the US....anecdotal perhaps, but FWIW....

Some of my local friends are waiting to find out he's an Eagles fan. They're predicting this will be worse than Santa Claus LOL.

Grew up in Towson likely a Ravens fan.....this is weird.....We had a cabin in PA about 30 minutes from Altoona and went to that very McDs more than once......also, my younger son graduated from Towson.....spooky man....
